Job Description

Catalyst is modern American cuisine restaurant located in Kendall Square searching for Sous Chef to join their BOH team.  The Sous Chef reports directly to the Executive Sous Chef and collaborates with all departments and team members as needed.  The right candidate must have a passion for food, positive attitude, have a willingness to learn and be challenged.  He/she is expected to maintain Catalyst service standards and health and safety practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs food preparation and collaborates with the Executive Sous Chef
  • Assists with menu planning, inventory, and management of supplies
  • Ensures that food is top quality and the kitchen is in good condition
  • Produces high quality plates, including both design and taste
  • Oversees and supervises kitchen staff
  • Monitors and maintains kitchen equipment
  • Prepares food items by cutting, chopping, mixing, and preparing sauces
  • Cooks food items by grilling, frying, sauteing, and other cooking methods to specified recipes and standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and complies with food sanitation requirements by properly handling food and ensuring correct storage
  • Cleans and sanitizes cooking surfaces at the end of each shift
  • Performs inventory checks and completes food storage logs
  • Trains new employees

Catalyst Restaurant opened in 2011 as one of the pioneer businesses in Technology Square near the MIT Campus in Cambridge, MA. Since that time, an influx of start-ups and big companies that have made Catalyst a hub for business lunches, after-work gatherings and private dining.

Reclaimed barn board, hand-blown glass light fixtures and a two-way fireplace give the large restaurant a comfortable, intimate environment. The chef’s dining room has views of the semi-open kitchen and the atrium dining room takes full advantage of the sweeping floor to ceiling windows.
