Empowered Hospitality is seeking an experienced Sous Chef New York City. The ideal candidate has 1-3 years of managerial experience in a fine-dining restaurant.
About the Role
The Sous Chef is responsible for leading the restaurant's daily kitchen operations. They direct and coach the team in the process, ensuring it is prepared for each service, serving exceptional products, and maintaining the business's financial health. The Sous Chef actively leads by example, inspires, and teaches skills to elevate their teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the team of line cooks and prep cooks to execute the menu with the highest of standards consistently
- Open and closing duties executed to restaurant standards
- Maintain a positive work environment with front-of-the-house colleagues,
- Work on recipe development with the executive chef and other sous chef
- Communicate all menu changes to front of house & back of house management and adjust station books with recipes and guidelines for new dishes
- Represent the BOH during staff line-up, updating on food and service notes
- Hold kitchen team accountable for set up and breakdown of kitchen based on restaurant standards
- Expedite service with a sense of urgency while maintaining food and plating standards
- Monthly inventory and invoice reconciliation for food cost
- Provide continual support to all kitchen staff and participate in line stations as needed based on scheduling
- Draft BOH schedule with focus on labor and overtime
- Partake and initiate disciplinary action/write up’s if necessary
- Update maintenance sheet to ensure equipment and repairs are kept up to date
- Assist in food production assignments and/or cooking during peak periods as needed
Experience, Knowledge, & Skills:
- 1-2 years of experience in a fine dining restaurant.
- Working experience in Italian food is a plus
- Proven ability to lead within a team environment
- Working knowledge of POS Systems
- Basic Computer Skills (Microsoft Office, Google Docs)
