About Matchaful:

Matchaful offers sustainable Japanese matcha and active botanical nutrition. We have six (6) cafe locations in NYC and are passionate about leading the matcha movement in a sustainable, elevated, and respectable way. About You:

Making matcha is all about the highest level of integrity, recipe mastery, and the energy to showcase your creations. We are looking for caring, self-sufficient, and diligent baristas to join our growing team. We are currently hiring full-time employees for all our cafe locations.


As Matchaful’s Matcharista, you'll be responsible for creating our incredible matcha-based drinks and smoothies, maintaining a pristine and aesthetic environment, and upholding the highest level of service—all while forging unique connections with our customers. You also develop your knowledge of our wellness ingredients and their benefits to best recommend items to customers.


Qualities

  • Existing knowledge of, or interest in learning, about matcha and it’s traditions
  • Curiosity to learn about the botanical wellness benefits of our products
  • Extreme care for the café space, paying attention to cleanliness and appearance
  • Excellent communication skills with customers and team members
  • Ability to receive and respond to feedback both positive and negative
  • Pristine level of organization, both in managing stock and your workflow
  • Incredible attention to detail based in a passion for your craft

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of food/beverage service required
  • Barista or Bartender experience required
  • Hospitality experience preferred
  • Food Handlers Certification required after 30 days (earns pay increase to $17/hr)

Availability:

Full-time availability required, 4-5 days per week.

Must be available at least one weekend day and work one major holiday (e.g. Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day). 


Matcharista Duties 

Cafe Service

  • Provide welcoming and knowledgeable customer service to guests, using your understanding of the menu items to best recommend selections.
  • Take orders using POS and encourage customers to join loyalty programs. 
  • Accurately craft each drink using the proper measuring standards, closely following any modifications or allergen warnings.
  • Memorize all drink recipes and learn new seasonal offerings when introduced.
  • Maintain a clean work area at all times, adhering to relevant DOH protocols.
  • Collaborate with your team members to efficiently manage rushes and divide tasks equally amongst the group. 
  • Adhere to Matchaful standards of dress and conduct in the cafe space.
  • Communicate effectively to cafe team members and management using Slack.

Cafe Maintenance

  • Complete daily side work tasks assigned to your shift, taking initiative when starting tasks in order to best set up your team for success.
    • Sidwork includes but is not limited to: making house milks using a NuMilk machine, washing and sanitizing dishes, restocking and organizing dry goods, preparing frozen and dry packs for smoothies, and sifting matcha.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures to make sure the cafe is well-stocked and thoroughly cleaned each day. Complete corresponding checklists in Slack.
  • Assist with monthly cleaning tasks as assigned by Shift or Store Lead.
  • Ensure that DOH protocols are followed at all times and obtain your Food Handler’s Certification from NYC within 30 days of hire. 
  • Track inventory and waste through POS, checking the numbers and expirations of items each shift.

Cafe Team

  • Work with your team, following the guidance of your Shift Lead and Store Lead.
  • Warmly welcome new team members, offering your advice and assisting Leads with training new hires when needed.
  • Arrive in a timely manner to all shifts, alerting the team when delays occur. 
  • Support open communication with your team, providing positive feedback as well as bringing suggestions and concerns to Store Lead and Human Resources.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($16.00 - $17.00) plus tips
