We're looking for an outstanding candidate to lead front of house operations for our 'smoked burger saloon' in Hill East, DC. Opened in 2022 by the owners of Republic Cantina and Sloppy Mama's BBQ, we're a neighborhood burger joint with a focused-but-great bar program and a designy Southwestern vibe.
Our food & bev offerings are fairly dialed in, however we also keep an active events & promotions calendar, including a recurring Pastrami Night, wine pairing dinners with guest somms, and regular popup series featuring chefs like Kevin Tien, Marcelle Afram, and Angel Baretto. We've developed some great neighborhood regulars, and are also working to expand our reach around the city.
We are seeking a General Manager to help us carry this momentum forward + continue to refine our approach, offerings & systems. At a high level this role entails ownership of: excellent and delightful guest experiences; the smooth functioning of the restaurant; and continual building & maintenance of the culture of our team.
Specific responsibilities of the GM role entail:
- people management: scheduling, hiring, train/motivate/discipline/manage all FOH staff, support staff on floor as needed, manage labor cost & staff takehome
- ops: oversee inventory/ordering for bar & paper goods, manage platforms (POS, table mgmt, etc), run payroll, manage vendor relationships, oversee systems for open/close, cleanliness, etc
- high level QC: generally act as the eyes & ears of guest experience, elicit & act on guest feedback, touch tables, recoveries
- creative input: we're looking for someone to deeply engrain themselves in the culture/soul of the place and participate in the creative process for introducing new bar & kitchen offerings as well as events & other programming
Salary is in the $75-85k range, depending on experience. We offer 50% health insurance contributions, paid vacation and a performance-based bonus structure. Anticipated time commitment is ~50 hr/wk (and an 'aggressively enforced' 2 days off)
Experience managing front of house staff required; experience managing bar or kitchen programs valued. Please respond with a resume & description of the last great burger you ate.
