Better Hospitality Group (BHG) is the operating group behind four of Washington, D.C.'s most popular neighborhood bar/restaurants: TAKODA Restaurant & Beer Garden, with locations in bustling Shaw and up-and-coming Navy Yard, Boardwalk Bar & Arcade on the waterfront at The Wharf, and a new wine bar, Easy Company, at The Wharf. BHG is the fastest growing bar/restaurant group in the Greater Washington region. Currently hiring an AGM to assist at both locations on the Wharf.
Summary:
We are currently looking for an Assistant General Manager to join our team at the Wharf. As an Assistant General Manager, you'll work directly with the General Manager to ensure day-to-day operations of the venue run smoothly. You will help oversee a FOH staff of 20-30 bartenders, servers, barbacks, and hosts/hostesses, running 5 floor shifts per week. We're seeking someone with hospitality management experience who is firm but approachable and wants to be part of a quickly expanding team.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Ensure shifts run smoothly with all FOH positions effectively performing their duties before, during, and after shifts
- Coordinate with BOH as needed to minimize ticket times and ensure great quality food
- Facilitate excellent customer service and resolve guest issues as they arise
- Lead and develop individual FOH team members, coaching and utilizing corrective action when necessary
- Adhere to all ABRA and Department of Health regulations
- Oversee the cleanliness of venue facilities and coordinate servicing for any maintenance issues
- Assist the General Manager with administrative and operational duties (e.g., invoicing, hiring)
- Make adjustments to the POS as needed
- Ensure all company policies are upheld and report concerns to the General Manager
What We're Looking For:
- 1+ years of experience managing a bar/restaurant preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and problem solving ability
- Refined interpersonal skills for interacting with team members and guests
- Ability to stay cool and focused under pressure
- Confidence in delivering performance feedback to team members when needed
- Strong knowledge of food, beverage, inventory, and food safety
- Experience with Toast POS a plus
Compensation & Benefits:
- $70,000 Base Salary after initial 90 day probationary period ($65K to start for the first 90 days).
