JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:  Head Bartender                                                           DATE: February, 2024

 

REPORTS TO:  General Manager, Executive Chef, Floor Managers/ Supervisors

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for the bar program and oversee the bar team. Responsible for serving and assisting Genesis House bar guests in a warm, accommodating and professional manner, ensuring complete customer satisfaction.  Must actively embody Genesis House standards while in the workplace, both in interaction with fellow service team members, kitchen staff, guests and management.  Level of service must be consistent with established Genesis House standards in every respect, as described in the employee manual and service handbook.

 

INTERACTIONS:  Guests, Service Staff, Kitchen Staff, Assistant GM, General Manager, Maitre d’, Executive Chef and Sous Chefs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, procedures or government regulations. Ability to write business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, guests and the general public.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply creative solutions to practical problems and situations.  Ability to remain flexible in determining a variety of problem solving approaches.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, recipe or schedule form.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a bartender to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, a bartender is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, kitchen equipment or controls and speak or hear.  A bartender is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and taste or smell.  A bartender is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

 

A bartender must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds, and infrequently lift and/or move over 50 pounds.  Specific vision requirements include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  While performing the essential duties of this job a bartender is frequently required to work in a limited physical space with variable atmospheric conditions including ventilation, lighting, smoke and extreme temperatures.  The noise level in the work area regularly exposed to construction materials, odors and debris.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

  • Must demonstrate a sincere and accommodating disposition towards our guests. All guests must feel that they are welcome and important while receiving a style and level of service of the highest standards of any New York City restaurant. 
  • May be required to serve beverage products according to established Genesis House standards and recipes. In addition, service of Genesis House food products in accordance with same standards. 
  • Detailed knowledge of our wine and spirits selection, including technical and service aspects.
  • Detailed knowledge of Genesis House menu items, food preparation techniques and basic culinary terminology. Able to converse with guests concerning menu items and products in a detailed and articulate manner.
  • May be required to participate in daily service meeting and be able to answer specific questions regarding our food and beverage program when called upon.
  • Ongoing cleaning and maintenance of physical plant and workstation according to established restaurant procedures. This includes pre-shift, post-shift, daily, weekly and monthly duties as assigned by management.
  • Must identify and report real or potential problem situations (intoxicated, loud and/or rude guests) to management in a timely manner.
  • The stocking and maintenance of par levels for all bar products, including the maintenance of wine-by-glass and draft beer program.
  • To deposit china, glassware and silver in a standardized and orderly manner in the dishwashing area.
  • Responsible for adherence to posted work schedule and arrival time. Must follow established procedures for schedule changes and shift adjustments.  Employee schedule may change without notice.  Schedule may include participation in private dining room events and/or off-premise catering events.
  • Responsible for proper usage of Micros POS system.
  • Adherence to dress code, grooming and hygiene standards.
  • Required to attend mandatory meetings when scheduled.
  • Other duties and tasks deemed necessary by management.
