ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Tin Building by Jean-Georges is a sprawling food emporium located inside one of New York’s most historic landmarks. The TIN Building features multiple unique venues: Several full-service restaurants, fast casual, and counter dining outlets as well as 10,000 sf of retail featuring private label products, grab and go, grocery and more. To support this significant operation the Marketplace features a large commissary kitchen and bakery, as well as an exhibition kitchen that will provide media opportunities.
The Howard Hughes Corporation, the nationally recognized real estate company overseeing the re-development of New York City’s Seaport District, envisions the repositioning of the property as a magnet for attracting locals and visitors alike with a unique, year-round blend of entertainment, food, and retail offerings. The centerpiece of the Seaport District’s renaissance is an entirely re-imagined historic TIN Building, featuring a one-of-a-kind Marketplace and entertainment venue operated by renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Personal Shopper is responsible for promoting and selling retail products and services to customers while delivering an exceptional guest experience. This role serves as a subject matter expert on product assortments across the Retail department, greets and builds relationships with customers, assists with all inquiries, and drives retail sales. This individual will float through all retail departments, assisting customers with shopping lists, recommending pairing to items in their basket, offering seasonal products, consulting on recipes, and helping plan events or special occasions. The role is integral in fostering an excellent customer shopping experience and aims for repeat business.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet and welcome guests with a smile as they explore the retail spaces, creating a positive and inviting atmosphere that ensures repeat customers.
- Approaching customers and, while using active listening techniques, inquire about their shopping needs and offering assistance to complete their shopping.
- Consulting on recipes
- Actively solicit and drive sales in a respectful and hospitable manner that meets customer needs.
- Provide accurate product information, features, and benefits to help customers make informed purchasing decisions.
- Operate cash registers and process transactions accurately, following company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized sales floor, ensuring products are well-displayed, have a price ticket, and shelves are stocked.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve sales targets and contribute to the overall success of the store.
- Stay up to date on product knowledge, promotions, and sales events to provide accurate information to customers.
- Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and returns professionally and effectively.
- Participate in training programs to continuously improve product knowledge and customer service skills.
- Upsell and cross-sell products to enhance the customer experience and maximize sales opportunities.
- Assist with inventory management, including restocking shelves and conducting periodic stock checks.
- Follow all departmental and company procedures, practices, policies.
- Follow all safety and security protocols to ensure a safe shopping environment for customers and staff.
- Consistently report to scheduled shifts on time and ready to work in proper uniform.
- Operate ethically to protect the assets and image of the company.
- Perform all other tasks as duties as assigned and/or per business need.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- 2+ years’ experience as a Retail Salesperson and/or relevant equivalent experience in customer service
- Prior grocery, culinary, hospitality or specialty food experience preferred.
- Exceptional guest service and interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication.
- Ability to remain organized in a fast paced, hands-on environment.
- Basic math skills for processing transactions.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing 10 – 30 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on a regular (or occasional basis).
- Ability to stand for prolong periods of time.
- Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the property. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
- Climbing steps regularly.
The base pay for this position is $21.00 - $25.00 per hour. The determination of what a specific employee in this job classification is paid within the range depends on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, prior employment history/job-related knowledge, qualifications and skills,etc.
