TenGoku Aburiya is one of the hottest Izakaya-style restaurants in Chicago, sister restaurant of Omakase Yume. We aim to create a welcoming environment serving a wide variety of drinks and small dishes to enjoy in our space. We are looking for skilled and passionate line cooks to serve high-quality dishes.

TenGoku is currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled line cook to join our dynamic culinary team. As a line cook, you will be an essential player in our fast-paced kitchen, responsible for delivering delicious and high-quality dishes to our valued customers. Your culinary expertise and attention to detail will contribute to the creation of authentic and flavorful Japanese dishes that reflect the essence of our restaurant. A line cook's ability to work efficiently and maintain quality under pressure will be crucial to our restaurant's success.

Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation: Prepare a wide range of dishes on the menu, including appetizers, entrees, and sides, while following established recipes and portion sizes
  • Speed and Efficiency: Thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced kitchen environment, ensuring that all orders are prepared accurately and in a timely manner to meet customer expectations.
  • Cooking Techniques: Execute cooking techniques with precision, including knife skills, grilling, frying, sautéing, and more to ensure consistent and high-quality dishes.
  • Ingredient Management: Properly handle, store, and rotate ingredients to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with fellow line cooks, kitchen staff, and servers to maintain smooth communication, ensuring orders are prepared correctly and on time.
  • Sanitation and Safety: Maintain a clean and organized workstation, following food safety and sanitation standards at all times to ensure a safe and hygenic environment.
  • Adaptability: Quickly adapt to changing menu items, special requests, and fluctuations in customer traffic, maintaining a flexible and proactive approach.
  • Quality control: Uphold the high standards of TenGoku by consistently delivering dishes that meet our quality and presentation expectations.
  • Training and Learning: Continuously improve your culinary skills and knowledge by learning new techniques and staying updated on food trends.

Qualifications: 
  • Previous experience as a line cook in a fast-paced restaurant environment is required.
  • Strong understanding of cooking techniques, flavors, and ingredient combinations
  • Proficiency in using kitchen equipment and tools, along with solid knife skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, maintaining a positive attitude and attention to detail.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills to ensure smooth coordination in a busy kitchen.
  • Adaptability to changing menus and fast-paced service periods.
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderately heavy items.
  • Flexibility in working various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Culinary education or relevant training is a plus.

Compensation Details
