Job Details

Responsible for leading all team members in running an efficient and profitable operation, including our retail stores; maintaining high company standards and conditions, and fostering a positive environment.

Finance:

  • Develops and executes sales and profit plans in line with budgetary goals
  • Ensures, and is accountable for, profitability of the store by growing sales and controlling cost of goods
  • Maintains and utilizes daily, weekly, quarterly and annual financial reporting tools
  • Ensures proper team member coverage per the needs of business while maintaining target labor costs
  • Oversees all cash management functions; Maintains proper loss prevention standards, including reviewing cash handling procedures, deposits and safe procedures
  • Reviews daily time punches for accuracy; Addresses time clock abuse (clocking in early or late) via coaching and/or documentation
  • Oversee ordering and inventory for certain supply categories

Operations:

  • Translate the concept and ideals of Orwashers into successfully operating facility/ stores
  • Act as role model for staff and ambassador for Orwashers, reflecting its unique culture, positive attitude and excellent standards at all times
  • Opens or closes establishment; Completes opening or closing checklist, as applicable
  • Manages hourly employees in their daily responsibilities, providing clear, effective direction
  • Prepares staff schedules, and/or as directed by Owner
  • Able to perform all POS functions, including opening and closing procedures, comps, voids and transfers
  • Plans, executes and communicates all promotions and information effectively and efficiently
  • Conducts DOH walk-throughs multiple times per day when on duty to ensure DOH compliance; Addresses all DOH violations immediately
  • Promotes and practices safe work habits, identifies and resolves potential safety hazards; Documents accidents, conducts initial investigation and determination of root cause of safety incidents in the interest of maintaining a safe work environment
  • Ensures that all team members are educated on our products and services
  • Ensures that all Company recipes procedures and standards are followed, maintaining the highest quality and consistent product standards
  • Approves any maintenance or repairs needed
  • Staff Management:

    • Hires, trains, supervises, manages, coaches, counsels, and evaluates hourly employees
    • Acts as role model for outstanding service; Continuously works to elevate service standards, and personally embodies hospitality in daily actions
    • Consistently monitors, coaches and encourages management team and hourly service employees to meet Company’s service and culture standards
    • Resolves team member or customer conflicts through Company compliant handling procedure
    • Collaborates with Owners to make postings for open positions and interviews candidates
    • Identifies staffing, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training needs of qualified candidates; Facilitates on-going training and development of current staff; Coaches and counsels team members for improved performance, documenting developmental plans as necessary, with Owners approval
    • Ensures that all team members are educated on Company products and services
    • Builds morale and team spirit by fostering a work environment where team members’ input is encouraged
    • Delivers performance reviews to all hourly employees

    Essential Functions:

    • Able to lift 30+ lbs
    • Fluent in both written and spoken English
    • Demonstrates positive leadership characteristics, which inspire team members to meet and exceed standards
    • Polished personal presentation; Grooming meets Company standards, as outlined by Employee Handbook
    • Communicates information effectively and efficiently
    • Able to work nights, weekends and holidays, and variable schedule, per the needs of the business
    • Ability to walk, stand, and/or bend continuously and for extended periods as required to perform essential job functions
    • Ability to perform essential job functions under pressure, maintain professionalism when working under stress
    • Ability to utilize traditional software programs such as Gmail, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), POS systems, and any additional systems as needed; Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system
    • Participates in community events and ensure corporate social responsibility goals of Company are met
    • Ensures that all staff are compliant with Company’s policies and procedures, as well as city, state and federal laws
    • Attends mandatory meetings including staff meetings, leadership meetings, etc.
    • Complete other duties as assigned by Owners
    Maintains knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies

Compensation Details

Compensation: Weekly ($1,400.00 - $1,500.00)

Part of Orwashers

Orwashers is a New York City institution. Founded in 1916 by a Hungarian immigrant family, the bakery began as a small storefront in the Upper East Side. It was borne out of a desire to serve local immigrant community members and focused on the high quality rye, black and grain breads that reflected the traditions of their homeland. After being passed on from generation to generation of the Orwasher family, the business was sold to Keith Cohen in 2008.

Since then, Keith and his team have worked hard to respect the brand's rich history while incorporating a distinctly current point of view. As part of this evolution, they have partnered with regional farmers for raw materials, are working with local wineries to create their starters and have developed a new line of contemporary artisan breads to satisfy today’s palates. We are grateful for the rich history and loyal patrons that have brought Orwashers this far and look forward to baking great breads for many more decades to come.
