AM AND PM PREP COOKS WANTED!
Position Overview:
As a Prep Cook at Casaléna, you will play a crucial role in supporting the culinary team by preparing ingredients, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen. Your attention to detail, organization skills, and ability to work efficiently will contribute to the overall success of our food preparation process. This position requires a strong work ethic, basic cooking skills, and the ability to follow recipes and instructions. Speed is also an important factor.
Hours: 7am-330pm AM, 5pm-11pm PM
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation:
- Prepare and portion ingredients, such as vegetables, meats, and spices, according to recipes and menu specifications.
- Assist in the preparation of sauces, dressings, and other basic components of dishes.
- Follow standardized recipes and preparation techniques to ensure consistency in taste and quality.
- Properly label and store prepared ingredients to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
- Ingredient Organization and Inventory:
- Receive and inspect incoming ingredients to ensure quality and freshness.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area, including proper storage of ingredients, utensils, and equipment.
- Monitor ingredient inventory levels and communicate with the kitchen manager to restock as needed.
- Rotate stock to ensure the usage of older ingredients first.
- Equipment and Station Setup:
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of cooking stations and equipment before and after service.
- Ensure all necessary tools, utensils, and equipment are available and in working order.
- Clean and sanitize equipment, cutting boards, and preparation surfaces regularly.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the kitchen manager.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with the culinary team to ensure smooth workflow and timely preparation of food.
- Communicate any concerns, shortages, or issues related to food quality to the kitchen manager or supervisor.
- Assist other kitchen staff as needed during busy periods or special events.
- Maintain open and respectful communication with team members to foster a positive work environment.
- Food Safety and Sanitation:
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper handling and storage of ingredients.
- Follow HACCP principles and maintain cleanliness and organization in accordance with health department regulations.
- Monitor and record temperatures of stored food items and refrigeration units as required.
- Dispose of waste and empty garbage as necessary, ensuring compliance with waste management protocols.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience as a prep cook for at least 5 years
- Basic understanding of food preparation techniques and culinary terminology.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects when necessary.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility to work in shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
