Job Details
Hewn, a nationally recognized artisan bakery in Evanston, Illinois, is looking to hire a Head Pastry Chef. We make naturally fermented artisan breads and pastries by hand, from scratch, every day, while using locally sourced organic flour and grains. 

The Head Pastry Chef contributes to and oversees all pastry production and baking while managing the day-to-day pastry operations at the bakery.   Applicants must have at least 4-5 years of management and pastry production experience in a retail and/or wholesale bakery. A culinary degree is required. (Please do not apply if you do not have this experience.). 

The Head Pastry Chef ensures that the technique, ingredients, and aesthetics of all products follow established expectations. They oversee the coordination of all bakery items related to pastries and assist in receiving, storage, issuance, preparation and presentation of such items. The Head Pastry Chef is responsible for scheduling pastry staff according to the production demands, and for training all pastry staff. The Head Pastry Chef upholds and ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures and is a member of the Hewn Leadership Team.

A simple IRA plan is also available. A moving stipend is provided for staff needing to move to the Chicago area.  This is a salaried position.

All applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs and be comfortable being on their feet for several hours.
