We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Chef De Cuisine, with a strong work ethic, and an endless curiosity to learn and grow with our team. This person will assist in teaching, modeling, and upholding the highest standards of: preparation, time management, food production, service execution, restaurant organization, and grace under pressure.
Our ideal candidate is someone who can lead with compassion and empathy, while balancing the operational demands of the position. The responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Cultivate a professional work environment
- Lead the culinary team throughout service, ensuring preparation, focus, and constructive post-service improvement
- Monitor reservations and adjust staffing accordingly
- Effectively communicate and provide direction to ensure timely completion of daily tasks
- Oversee quality and consistency in food production during service
- Actively participate in service, and liaise between kitchen and front-of-house staff
- Open and close the restaurant, including daily prep lists, cooler walkthroughs, and cleanliness checks
- Train staff to operate within Department of Health (DOH) guidelines
- Handle scheduling for the BOH team
- Understand and address the restaurant's financial needs
- Coach and mentor team members, fostering a culture of development and continued education
- Conduct monthly evaluations with line cooks
- Plan and provide continued education at meetings
- Create and implement training material for all BOH staff members
- Contribute to systems and procedures for maintenance and operational efficiency
- Assist with ordering, inventory management, and daily product reviews
- Recruit, hire, schedule, train new hires, and review back-of-house team members
- Collaborate with chefs on menu development
- Fine-tune Culinary Program offerings for prep and service efficiency
Qualified Pastry Chefs must be energetic, enthusiastic, and have a great attitude, as well as:
- At least 4 years of fine dining service experience (preferably in a Chef De Cuisine/Head Chef role)
- Passion for creating an incredibly memorable guest experience through cooking.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment effectively without losing focus on priorities and while maintaining a high level of quality.
- Must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of (and desire to continue learning) all aspects of pastry, including sourcing of ingredients, methods of preparation, cooking techniques, etc.
- NYC Department of Health Food Protection Certification and a strong understanding, compliance, and enforcement of all best practices and procedures to maintain excellent restaurant hygiene conditions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workplace.
- Knowledge and/or experience with Korean cuisine is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs if necessary
- Safely and effectively use all necessary tools and equipment
- Stand and walk for an entire shift, including moving safely through all areas of the restaurant
