Co-founders Chef Junghyun 'JP' Park & CEO Ellia Park, and Naeun Hospitality (the highly acclaimed team behind Atoboy [2016] and Atomix [2018]) are currently seeking a Line Cook to join the service team at NARO - which recently received a 3-star rating from the New York Times.
We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Pastry Chef, with a strong work ethic, and an endless curiosity to learn and grow with our restaurant. This person will assist in teaching, modeling, and upholding the highest standards of: preparation, time management, food production, service execution, restaurant organization, and grace under pressure. This position reports to the NARO Executive Chef.
Our ideal candidate is someone who can lead with compassion and empathy, while balancing the operational demands of the position. The responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Coach and mentor team members, fostering a culture of development and continuous education.
- Effectively communicate and provide strategic direction, prioritizing tasks to ensure they are completed in a timely and seamless manner.
- Conduct pre-service line checks collaboratively with the sous chef.
- Monitor pastry team hours, oversee hiring and training, and manage scheduling for the pastry team.
- Maintain the pastry department, including equipment; coordinate special events and the kitchen cleaning schedule.
- Oversee inventory and ordering for the pastry department.
- Innovate and develop new menu items, coordinating tastings with the Executive and Head Chefs.
- Uphold health and safety standards by enforcing strict sanitation protocols.
- Perform thorough employee performance reviews, maintaining documentation and organized records.
Qualified Pastry Chefs must be energetic, enthusiastic, and have a great attitude, as well as:
- At least 2 years of fine dining service experience
- Passion for creating an incredibly memorable guest experience through cooking.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment effectively without losing focus on priorities and while maintaining a high level of quality.
- Must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of (and desire to continue learning) all aspects of pastry, including sourcing of ingredients, methods of preparation, cooking techniques, etc.
- NYC Department of Health Food Protection Certification and a strong understanding, compliance, and enforcement of all best practices and procedures to maintain excellent restaurant hygiene conditions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workplace.
- Knowledge and/or experience with Korean cuisine is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs if necessary
- Safely and effectively use all necessary tools and equipment
- Stand and walk for an entire shift, including moving safely through all areas of the restaurant
