Job Title: Sous Chef
Reports to: Executive Chef
Job Overview: We are a new upscale restaurant & lounge in downtown Chicago. With a commitment to quality and innovation, we are seeking a talented Sous Chef to join our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Culinary Leadership:
- Work closely with the Exec Chef to develop & execute creative & high-quality menu items
- Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring consistency and adherence to culinary standards
- Menu Development:
- Contribute to menu planning and innovation, bringing fresh ideas and staying abreast of industry trends.
- Execute and maintain high standards for food presentation and flavor profiles.
- Staff Management:
- Supervise and motivate kitchen staff, providing guidance and support in a high-paced environment.
- Assist in recruiting, training, and developing culinary team members.
- Quality Control:
- Monitor food quality and ensure adherence to recipes, portion control, and presentation standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of ingredients and kitchen equipment to maintain quality.
- Attention to detail is a must!
- Ordering and Inventory:
- Collaborate with the Exec Chef in managing inventory levels, controlling costs, and placing orders.
- Implement efficient and effective storage practices to minimize waste.
- Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure a clean and safe working environment, following health and safety regulations.
- Lead by example in maintaining high standards of hygiene and sanitation.
- Collaboration with Front of House:
- Foster strong communication and collaboration with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth service.
- Respond to guest feedback and make necessary adjustments for customer satisfaction.
- Desire to Learn & Grow:

Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in an upscale, high volume dining setting.
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
- Knowledge of current industry trends and cooking techniques.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities.
Pastry and/or baking experience a plus!
