Job Details
The Sommelier position at established and reputable Steak House in NYC is a pooled-tip service role that works closely with the management team and all other front-of-house team members. The Sommelier is responsible for maintaining a wine list that meets the goals set by management and for ensuring that proper service of wine and beer is maintained according to the wine service manual. This staff member conducts training this of wait staff and keeps them up to date of all changes to the wine list.
Essential Duties:
Wine List
- Maintains a beverage list that meets the goals set by management
- Maximize profit by maintaining profit margins, sales mix
- Meets goal for inventory levels in both dollars and number of bottles
Staff Training
- Trains staff to maximizes revenue through increase sales
- Ensures staff is up to date on all additions and deletions from the list
- Communicate with dining room staff and bar staff
Inventory
- Maintain organized and clean beverage storeroom
- Conduct a bi-weekly inventory of all alcoholic beverages
- Make changes to wines in POS system as necessary
Service
- Work dinner service
- Interact with guests and serve customers as required and make recommendations
- Assist wait staff with wine service
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a fine dining environment, preferably in a similar role (5 years)
- Outstanding knowledge of wines
- Actively practice food safety procedures
- Organizational skills
- Effective time management
- Pleasant demeanor
- Positive and clear written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Ability to engage guests successfully
