Position Summary

The Restaurant Manager is responsible for managing the Chicago Winery restaurant operations, including managing, coaching and directing the hourly staff. The goal of this position is to represent the Company’s best interests, ensure that Chicago Winery operates at the highest level of quality, and provides exemplary customer satisfaction. The Restaurant Manager reports directly to the Restaurant General Manager.

Responsibilities


Strategic Responsibilities

  • Ensure the wine bar operates as per Company vision and standards
  • Work with the Restaurant General Manager and fellow Restaurant Managers to create a superb and consistent customer experience
  • Maintain a positive, productive, organized, and safe environment for all employees in line with Employee Handbook and Company values and local, state and federal regulations

Operational & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist in scheduling in order to maintain proper staffing levels for the first floor operations
  • Attend weekly meeting to go over goals, priorities and concerns, as well as pre-shift training
  • Edit and update electronic and physical menu files
  • Facilitate communication between staff and management
  • Implement and enforce all FOH training. This should include but not be limited to new
  • hire training and testing along with continuing staff education including the weekly staff
  • training curriculum.
  • Work with the Restaurant General Manager in the implementation of relevant marketing
  • promotions and specials
  • Respond to general contact and other inquiries related to the wine bar.
  • Work with Office & Human Resources to ensure employees are properly on-boarded/off-boarded and employee paperwork is compliant
  • Perform employee evaluations and provide input into decision-making concerning staff discipline, promotions and separations.
  • Aid in creation, revision, and implementation of SOPs, policies & procedures
  • Manage reservations including, but not limited to, responding to reservation inquiries, large party requests, special reservations, and general OpenTable maintenance
  • Manage large party inquiries and execution
  • Manage the execution of the first floor Private Dining Room events
  • Advocate for, market, and sell Chicago Winery wines to guests at the tasting room by presenting wines, specials, library and bottle list items
  • Enhance the customer experience via wine service, knowledge, and sales
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting details regarding retail and wine club sign ups, in addition to tasting room operations
  • Train and certify competency of tour guides and wine class instructors
  • Support, mentor, assist and train staff while fostering their wine knowledge 
  • Maintain ongoing FOH staff training on wines by the glass and library wines so that they can confidently recommend and upsell wines to guests
  • Responsible for reviewing goals with management and developing a plan/strategy to achieve retail sales and wine club membership goals
  • Conduct weekly wine inventory, warehouse wine ordering and stocking
  • Maintain wine storage, ensuring racks are replenished throughout the week, boxes are broken down and wine is organized.
  • Develop new wine curriculum and tailor for Chicago Winery
  • Control flow of service and monitor guests’ consumption of alcohol
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required
  • Abide by sanitation, health, and company guidelines, concerning safety, cleanliness, and alcoholic beverages. 

Service & Floor Responsibilities

  • Interact with guests throughout service to monitor satisfaction and ensure a positive and memorable experience
  • Lead pre shift setting expectations of service, ensuring that all standards are adhered to
  • Actively coach the team throughout service, providing ongoing feedback and development
  • Manage the restaurant’s appearance and atmosphere
  • Address any guest issues and work towards a positive outcome
  • Perform opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain a safe environment for both guests and staff

License/Certifications

  • Illinois Basset License
  • ServSafe Certification
  • Maintain compliance with Department of Health standards and guidelines

Qualifications

  • Wine enthusiast - a passion for wine and educating others about wine. Formal wine knowledge required
  • Minimum of 2 years management experience in winery, bar, restaurant, and/or hospitality industry
  • Highly Motivated, independent, self-starter
  • Outstanding verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to coach, train and motivate employees with strong understanding of employee skill development and personnel management
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in operating POS (point of sale) and back-office systems - cash reconciliation, server checkouts

Compensation Details

Compensation: Salary ($65,000.00 - $75,000.00)
