Jon & Vinny's is hiring a Sommelier to be part of the wine team at Jon & Vinny's Fairfax and Helen's Wines!
This position is perfect for someone with a strong foundation in wine with the desire to grow and continue learning while being a part of one of the most dynamic restaurant groups in LA.
Below are some of the key tasks and responsibilities. Other duties may arise and be assigned:
- Welcome every new table and introduce yourself and the wine program.
- Selling and talking about wine with customers at tables and in the shop. While somms should spend most of their time on the floor, somms must also keep a vigilant eye on the shop.
- In the shop, somms must welcome guests, answer questions, give suggestions, and be the ultimate, friendly and informative guide.
- Assist customers via email or phone and create a friendly and unpretentious atmosphere for customers.
- Support management with fulfilling online orders, including building gift boxes and organizing orders for pick up delivery, in-state and out-of-state shipping.
- Generate and track sales with a focus on creating repeat business.
- Stocking should also occur throughout each shift as well as at the end of every shift to set up the next day’s service.
- Keep the shop clean and organized at all times during the shift and complete daily deep cleaning.
- Cellar organization.
- Mix of day and night shifts, including weekend admin
Basic Skills:
- Know the wine list very well (i.e familiarity with all producers in the shop), pass wine study quizzes and have knowledge of regions and winemaking.
- Manage floor and shop flow solo.
- Confidently open still and sparkling wine bottles table side, present and serve wine following the proper etiquette/protocol, know how to decant wines when needed/requested and how to use the Ah-So for older bottles.
- Complete nightly side work and review with the closing manager before clocking out.
- Other duties as assigned.
