Role Overview

The Morning Baker role at Malvern Buttery is centered around producing high quality artisan pastries and baked goods. The Morning Baker will ensure high quality output of the daily fresh-baked items. The role requires physical stamina, technical expertise, and a passion for creating exceptional pastries while upholding Malvern Buttery’s values of craftsmanship and quality.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to quality standards set by the Executive Pastry Chef and Pastry Sous Chef
• Have a natural ability to be efficient and focused on a very early schedule
• Have a fine-tuned eye for finishing and baking quality
• Follow written recipe directions as well as any verbal instructions
• Bake pastries to the correct internal temperature as well as correct visual coloring

• Ensure production schedules are met and timely
• Correctly scale ingredients using the metric system of weight (Kg/g)
• Notify Chefs of low inventory immediately

• Keep a well organized and clean workspace

• Uphold safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards in the bakery at all times.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-2 years professional baking experience
• Minimum 1-2 years of early morning work experience (2:30-4am start time)
• Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
• Problem-solving mindset (once fully trained)
• Basic understanding of classic dough types, batter types, and large commercial equipment

• Ability to handle the physical demands of kitchen production, including lifting 50lb bags and heavy bowls, as well as  standing for long periods.
• Ability to focus in a fast-paced, sometimes loud and busy environment

• A passion for high-quality, handcrafted baked goods and attention to detail in every stage of production.
• Team-oriented with strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Love for all things food and beverage.
• A caring and self-motivated attitude
