Join our culinary team at our upscale quick-serve vegan restaurant in the East Village of New York City as a Late Night Line Cook. We are seeking passionate individuals with a food service permit who are experienced with high volume operations and are dedicated to delivering exceptional vegan cuisine. As a Line Cook, you will play a crucial role in creating memorable dining experiences by preparing and presenting high-quality dishes. This position is the Late Night Line Cook whose schedule will start out as Friday and Saturday nights from 11p-4a with the restaurant closing at 3a for now. We plan on extending this shift to at least 5a in the future. You must be available for those hours to be considered for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and execute menu items with precision, following established recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
- Adhere to strict food safety and sanitation guidelines, ensuring proper handling, storage, and labeling of all ingredients.
- Collaborate with the Cashiers to communicate any customer requests or modifications, ensuring accurate and timely order preparation.
- Assist the Cashiers during busy periods by occasionally processing guest payments or taking orders, maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Support the Cashiers in providing extensive knowledge of menu offerings, including ingredients, preparation methods, and special dietary considerations.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, following proper cleaning and sanitization procedures throughout the shift.
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen team, Cashiers, front-of-house staff, and management, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Contribute to menu development and the creation of new vegan dishes, sharing ideas and collaborating with the culinary team.
- Embrace a sense of urgency and adaptability during busy periods, working efficiently while upholding exceptional standards.
- Support other areas of the restaurant as needed, such as assisting with cashiering, taking to-go orders, or providing exceptional customer service.
Note: The crossover responsibilities mentioned above are meant to enhance collaboration and support between the Cashiers and Line Cooks during peak periods or when additional assistance is required.
Qualifications:
- Food Service Permit: Possess a valid food service permit or certification, demonstrating knowledge of food safety and handling procedures.
- Culinary Experience: Previous experience as a line cook or in a similar role within a professional kitchen is preferred.
- Passion for Vegan Cuisine: Genuine interest in vegan cuisine, plant-based ingredients, and cooking techniques is highly desirable.
- Culinary Skills: Proficient in various cooking methods, knife skills, and kitchen equipment operation.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, supporting and assisting fellow team members.
- Time Management: Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new recipes, techniques, and kitchen procedures.
- Physical Stamina: Capable of standing for extended periods, lifting heavy objects, and working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
