Located between Union Station and Chinatown in D.C.’s East End, Bar Spero is the latest concept from Reverie Chef Johnny Spero, at the heart, a lively seafood bar and grill. Embodying the dynamic energy of the District’s downtown culture, the space is designed for chance encounters and lively conversation.
We are seeking individuals who share our passion for fostering authentic connections with our guests, ensuring they feel genuinely welcomed, relaxed, and at home. Beyond the spotlight, we devote as much attention to our culinary offerings and beverages as we do to our service operations. We are in search of dedicated individuals eager to take pride in their craft, uphold exceptional standards, and seamlessly integrate as valuable team players.
The host team at Bar Spero plays a pivotal role in maintaining the flow of service, acting as a vital link between servers, managers, the kitchen, and our guests. Guest-facing responsibilities include cultivating relationships with the restaurant, as well as offering accurate reservations that reflect our availability. Exceptional communication skills are a must, emphasizing direct and hospitable language, along with an above average understanding of Resy or similar online reservation systems.
Bar Spero embraces a 'whole house' ethos, where we expect all departments (pastry, savory, dining room, and facilities) to collaboratively support and inspire one another to achieve our paramount goal of guest satisfaction. As a host, you will regularly interact with these departments and should excel in effective and respectful communication with your colleagues and managers.
This position offers the flexibility of either full-time or part-time hours. Bar Spero is open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday.
- Organizing the reservation book with consideration of turn times, server sections, and pace.
- Familiarity with Resy or alternate online reservation system
- Exceptional communication skills
- Respond to guest emails/texts/phone calls in a professional and timely manner
- Maintain cover count by confirming guest reservations, updating reservation status, and reaching out to notify/waitlist
- Opening side work responsibilities including menu-printing, reviewing table plotting, etc.
- Welcome guests upon arrival and warmly thank guests as they depart
- Understanding pace of service through awareness of timing, table status, and upcoming seatings
- Communicate guest notes to management, sommeliers, chefs, and add to guest Resy profiles
- Assist with training new team members
- Have availability to work weekends
- Must be able to stand, walk and move during entire shift
