ABOUT THE PROJECT:

 

The Howard Hughes Corporation, the nationally recognized real estate company overseeing the re-development of New York City’s Seaport District, envisions the repositioning of the property as a magnet for attracting locals and visitors alike with a unique, year-round blend of entertainment, food and retail offerings.  The centerpiece of the Seaport District’s renaissance is an entirely re-imagined historic TIN Building, featuring a one-of-a-kind Marketplace and entertainment venue operated by renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

The TIN Building will feature multiple unique venues: Several full-service restaurants, fast casual and counter dining outlets as well as 10,000 sf of retail featuring private label products, grab and go, grocery and CPGs. To support this significant operation the Marketplace will feature a large commissary kitchen and bakery, as well as an exhibition kitchen that will provide media opportunities.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Accounts Payable (AP) Clerk plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices and payments in the restaurant business. The AP Clerk is responsible for maintaining vendor relationships, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures related to accounts payable.                   

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Receive and review vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy, proper coding, and adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Process vendor invoices into the accounting system, verifying appropriate approvals and supporting documentation
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve any discrepancies or issues in a timely manner
  • Prepare and process payment runs, including checks, ACH transfers, and other payment methods, ensuring accuracy and adherence to payment terms
  • Maintain accurate records of accounts payable transactions, including filing and organizing vendor invoices and related documents
  • Communicate with vendors regarding payment inquiries, discrepancies, and payment delays, providing exceptional customer service and resolving issues promptly
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure accurate and timely recording of purchase orders and receipts
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing accruals and reconciling accounts payable balances
  • Stay updated on accounts payable best practices, industry regulations, and changes in accounting standards related to vendor payments
  • Ability to manage expectations, processes, and multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively communicate across all levels and units
  • Operate ethically to protect the assets and image of the company
  • Must be able to maintain a schedule availability flexible to the business demands
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

 

  • Associate degree in accounting or related field preferred
  • Hospitality/Food and Beverage to include retail and multi-venues experience preferred
  • Minimum 6 months minimum in a related accounting role with desire to grow in the accounting field. Preferably in hospitality/food and beverage industry
  • Strong technical and analytical skills with a focus on accuracy of work preferred
  • Familiarity with accounts payable processes, including invoice processing, payment runs, and vendor management
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Basic understanding of general accounting principles and knowledge of accounts payable best practices
  • Highly proficient with MS Office, MS Project, Outlook applications (Excel, Word, Power Point) and ability to learn new systems
  • Collaborative work style and ability to work effectively across departments
  • Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Pre-opening stage or technology transformation experience preferred
  • Experience in the areas of income audit, daily sales, cash management, and accounts payable desired
  • Experience or ability to automate or drive process efficiency desired
  • Must be passionate, entrepreneurial, and dedicated to success

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs; Ability to stand for prolong periods of time and climb steps regularly. 
  • Ability to physically maneuver through work areas; bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing

 

The base pay range for this position is $20.00-$25.00 per hour. The determination of what a specific employee in this job classification is paid depends on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, prior employment history/job-related knowledge, qualifications and skills, etc
