Job Details

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join our team at Afuri Ramen + Dumpling known for its exceptional flavors and dedication to quality. As a Sous Chef, you will play a crucial role in the kitchen, collaborating closely with the culinary team to ensure the consistent delivery of delicious ramen dishes. In the absence of an Executive Chef, you will take on a leadership role, overseeing kitchen operations and upholding our standards of excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation and Cooking: Prepare and cook a variety of Japanese dishes with precision, adhering to established recipes and techniques.
Monitor the quality of ingredients to ensure freshness and taste.

Kitchen Leadership: Lead the kitchen team during service, delegating tasks and ensuring smooth operations.
Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, maintaining a positive and collaborative work environment.

Quality Control: Maintain high standards of presentation and taste for all dishes leaving the kitchen.
Conduct regular taste tests and inspections to guarantee consistent quality.

Inventory Management: Assist in managing kitchen inventory, including ordering and restocking ingredients as needed.
Minimize wastage by employing efficient portion control practices.

Sanitation and Safety: Uphold strict hygiene and safety standards in accordance with local regulations.
Monitor the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, equipment, and workstations.

Communication: Liaise with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth communication and timely order delivery.
Communicate effectively with the management team regarding kitchen operations, supplies, and any issues that arise.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of ramen preparation techniques and a passion for Japanese cuisine.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide kitchen staff.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • High attention to detail and dedication to maintaining quality standards.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment operation, maintenance, and safety protocols.
  • Effective communication skills to foster teamwork and collaboration.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and busy service periods.
  • Culinary degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
