We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to help oversee a small culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for local food, experience managing kitchen teams, and strong leadership skills.
Local Roots is a female minority owned small business that has a Chinese farm to table menu.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily kitchen operations at our Brooklyn cafe kitchen
- Manage the prep team, porter and line cook during their shifts
- Ensure that all food is prepared to the highest standards of quality and presentation
- Manage inventory and ordering of supplies
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
- Maintain kitchen equipment and facilities
- Build team camaraderie and provide mentorship to a small culinary team of varying skill levels
- Assist in building prep lists, delegating tasks and ensuring the prep is completed in a timely manner
- Ensure that orders are correctly put together for delivery from our BK cafe to our 2 kiosks
- Maintain walk-in and freezer organization and cleanliness
- Work closely with culinary management
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in a commercial kitchen, and 1 year in a management role
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Experience delegating tasks, ordering, managing inventory
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with inventory management and cost control
- Detail oriented
- Hours, Availability, and Compensation
- $30/hr based on experience
- This position is paid hourly, earns up to 40 hours annually accrued PTO
