Job Details

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Chef to lead the very small kitchen team and oversee all culinary operations at our small, established restaurant with 45 seats. This is a very hands on role, and expect direct involvement with evening service. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating exceptional dishes using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and will be responsible for menu development, food preparation, kitchen management, and staff training. The Executive Chef will ensure that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of quality, presentation, and taste, and will be responsible for maintaining high levels of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen. A high degree of authority and autonomy with an existing dedicated team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage menu development, ensuring a balance of flavors and textures, and working within the restaurant's budget
  • Develop recipes and ensure consistent quality of all dishes
  • Lead and manage kitchen staff, including hiring, training, and scheduling
  • Oversee inventory management, ordering, and vendor relationships
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Manage kitchen operations, including food preparation, plating, and garnishing
  • Collaborate with the front-of-house team to ensure timely and efficient service
  • Implement and maintain cost control measures to meet budget targets
  • Monitor and maintain quality and freshness of all ingredients
  • Stay current on culinary trends and techniques and continually improve menu offerings
  • Interface with all front-of-house staff and function as the "head of the restaurant" during service. 

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Executive Chef or in a similar role
  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Knowledge of food and beverage cost control techniques
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and food sanitation standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Creative and innovative approach to menu development and presentation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
