Raf’s is searching for an experienced Assistant General Manager to lead all aspects of service and management at Raf’s. The role occupies an essential leadership and managerial role in the running of our restaurant while bringing warm and generous hospitality to our guests. The Manager will have a strong understanding of our hospitality culture, style of service and our food and beverage offerings, and will work to uphold our standards every day. The Manager will identity and take care of our regulars and VIPs as well as forge connections with new guests to grow our regulars.


In addition to the core role overseeing all aspects of service management at Raf’s, the Manager will also have responsibilities spanning reservation management, team culture, administration, financial reporting, events, compliance, inventory management and general maintenance of the physical space.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversight of all aspects of service and administration
  • Lead restaurant pre-service and floor team preparations
  • Manage all aspects of guest relations with support of the Maitre D’
  • Manage reservations book to ensure revenue is maximized, turn times are met, walk-ins can be accommodated, and seasonal variations are incorporated
  • Manage and improve guest notes in the reservations book to build customer database
  • Train and oversee the front door team in oversight of reservations book and customer database
  • Hire, train, manage, and schedule FOH team
  • Support and build team culture through training sessions, service education, and performance reviews
  • Develop key performance indicators in collaboration with ownership and track restaurant performance against those metrics
  • Provide detailed financial, managerial, and service reports to ownership and finance team, with support from bookkeeper/controller
  • Implement company disciplinary measures as appropriate to given staff circumstances
  • Work closely with kitchen management to ensure satisfactory performance of BOH team
  • Collaborate with ownership team to ensure all requirements are up-to-date and compliant
  • Oversee all maintenance needs and associated service providers, with an eye to maintaining the performance of the facility
  • Maintain all required permits and inspections
  • Oversee filing of weekly payroll in collaboration with bookkeeper/controller and payroll service

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High energy, enthusiastic, and service-oriented personality
  • Outstanding management, mentorship, and training abilities
  • Broad knowledge of wine, cocktail, and beverage service operations
  • Able to project manage and problem solve with attention to timeliness and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to be a calm problem-solver in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand and work for shifts of 8+ hours
  • Available to work holidays and weekends
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance at all times
  • Ability to communicate clear and concise verbal and written instructions
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an equivalent service or restaurant management role
  • Experience in oversight of administrative responsibilities, HR implementation, payroll filing, and general maintenance supervision
  • Strong grasp of Toast POS and Resy OS
  • Current ServSafe Manager’s certification

Located at the intersection of NoHo, Nolita and the Bowery, Raf’s will open in the historic Parisi Bakery building. This century-old space—originally opened as “Angie’s French-Italian Bakery” in 1933—boasts both a longstanding reputation as an Italian bakery, as well as built-in bread ovens dating back to the 1930s. The ovens, immaculately preserved, offer a unique opportunity for not only baking, but also a hearth-driven menu of such dishes as cast iron sfincione (Sicilian pizza), saffron-scented mussels and dry-aged cote de bôef.

We are a female-owned and operated independent restaurant group. Raf's takes on the task of reinventing and restoring an iconic Italian bakery with 100 year old hearths. In true New York fashion, Raf's defies a singular conception (bakery, café, bar, restaurant, call it what you will) that honors the tradition and elegance of the European haunt but with a healthy dose of irreverent formality, a contradiction that is uniquely New York. It is, in New York fashion, an irreverent by-product of layered history, its neighborhood, and a legacy of progressive institutions.

Our aim is to provide a warm yet lively hospitality experience at our bakery and restaurant, while paying homage to the history of our uniquely “New York” space and appealing to the locals and passersby who frequent the neighborhood today.
