SOMOS Hospitality, the team behind Tzuco, has announced UMMO, a contemporary Italian dining concept opening in River North at 22 West Hubbard Street in July. Helmed by Principal/Co-Founder Germán González with cuisine by Chef/Partner José Sosa and design by Karen Herold of Studio K Creative, UMMO will offer regional Italian cuisine. Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Prep Cook to join our culinary team. As a Prep Cook, you will play a crucial role in supporting our kitchen operations by efficiently preparing ingredients, maintaining a clean work environment, and assisting in various food preparation tasks. Your dedication to quality, efficiency, and teamwork will contribute to the success of our kitchen.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and portion ingredients according to recipes and kitchen guidelines.
- Assist in chopping, dicing, slicing, and mincing ingredients to the required specifications.
- Follow proper food handling and storage procedures to ensure safety and prevent contamination.
- Prepare and assemble various components of dishes, such as sauces, dressings, and marinades.
- Assist in organizing and stocking ingredients, ensuring adequate supplies for daily operations.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, including equipment, utensils, and storage areas.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient operations during meal service.
- Adhere to portion control guidelines to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.
- Assist in the receiving and inspection of deliveries, checking for quality and accuracy.
- Follow kitchen safety standards and procedures, including proper knife handling and equipment operation.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Prep Cook or in a similar role is preferred.
- Basic understanding of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
- Knowledge of proper food handling and safety procedures.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks accordingly.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistency in food preparation.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Culinary education or certification is a plus.
