Saltwater Bakeshop is looking for a lead baker to join the team!
We are a fast growing bakery specializing in croissants and naturally leavened breads. Our menu is deeply influenced by the classics and we have grown a very loyal and enthusiastic clientele with our variety of bread offerings and a unique take on familiar items. We are currently working in a shared commercial kitchen space, but will be moving into our own space in San Francisco in the late summer time. We currently sell our products at multiple farmers markets throughout San Francisco, have a growing wholesale program, and will be selling out of our retail space soon.
We focus on using organic ingredients and seasonal, locally sourced produce from the farmers markets. Our menu changes regularly and would require someone to make some creative contributions as well as mentor the staff on their ideas.
We are looking for someone with at least three years of experience both sourdough bread in a fast paced, professional setting, as well as management experience or experience leading a team. This position will be solely in charge of leading the bread team with quality control, training, and helping build the bread team as we grow.
Some tasks include:
- Mixing/shaping/baking a variety or breads such as baguettes, country sourdough, and rye bread.
- Inventory & ordering
- Menu development
- Overseeing daily production to ensure the team is on task
- Quality control
- Training new staff members
Job requirements:
- Must be available early mornings and weekends
- Ability to maintain quality standards while working with a sense or urgency
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to stand for 8 hours
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Valid California food handler’s certification
- Proof of Covid vaccine
- 3 years of experience working with naturally leavened breads
- 1 year minimum of a similar lead position or management position
