Located in Washington DC the Line Cook oversees preparing food and setting up other necessary supplies. They make sure everything has been set up correctly before starting work. They use specialized kitchen tools to prepare essential ingredients and create a finished product for restaurants.
Our ideal Line Cook will be hospitality-focused with a background in kitchens. They will be dependable, motivated to learn, committed to working as a team member, and possess excellent communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for producing a consistent, quality food product using standardized recipes.
- Setting up and helping to prep station for service.
- Prepares food items by cutting, chopping, mixing, and preparing sauces.
- Cook food items by grilling, frying, sautéing, and other cooking methods to specified recipes and standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and complies with food sanitation requirements by properly handling food and ensuring correct storage.
- Cleans and sanitizes cooking surfaces during and at the end of the shift.
- Performs inventory checks and completes Betterchains checklists; and
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and guests.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- One to two years of experience as a line cook, restaurant cook, or prep cook
- Experience with various cooking methods and procedures
- Driven towards consistency and service excellence
- Wide array of cuisine knowledge
- Accuracy and speed in executing tasks
- Ability to work as a team member
- Follows directions and instructions
- Familiar with industry best practices
- Food Handler’s License for DC
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to stand continuously throughout an 8-hour shift
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable bending, climbing, reaching, stooping, and moving quickly
