About this job
Over the past year, Build Coffee’s chef, Christian Sutter, has overhauled our food menu, creating an all-day program that’s creative, accessible, and delicious. We’re now hiring an additional set of hands to support our day-to-day food operations as we expand hours and build out our catering program.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic jack-of-all-trades who's excited to do a mix of customer care/register work and cooking: we’re a tight team that wears a lot of hats, and this role is one that will be taking care of folks in our room in multiple ways. This full time role will be a mix of register, working our food station, prepping catering, and supporting our monthly summer dinner series. This cook will work closely with our experienced chef, and while some form of cooking experience is required, we’d welcome a candidate who’s fairly new and excited to learn.
About Build
Build Coffee is a café and bookstore in Woodlawn, Chicago. Our often-full room seats 25, and in the summers we operate a large garden patio. Our building, Experimental Station, is next to our neighborhood elementary school, and is full of tenants doing work we believe in, from a weekly independent farmers market to multiple civic journalism projects. We seek to be a haven, hotbed, and hub for a diverse group of activists, journalists, students, and neighbors of all ages.

-Maintaining a food-safe kitchen, including shared responsibility for dishes in a triple sink (no dishwasher)
