Farm to People is an online farmers market grocery delivery service specializing in sustainably-sourced, local, fresh produce and artisanally produced foods. We recently opened a Kitchen & Bar and are currently looking for an ambitious cook to join the team. Our customers can subscribe to a series of curated Farm Boxes or choose to shop à la carte. We deliver 6 days per week and are expanding in the NYC market. Our mission is to provide an ethical marketplace where people can know where their food is coming from. We are a tight-knit and inclusive team full of passionate foodies.
This is an on-site position based in Brooklyn, NY
This position reports to the Chef & Kitchen Manager
0-1 years experience in a kitchen role is fine, but most importantly, eager to learn, work hard and bring your creativity and positive attitude into our kitchen.
Your main duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare mise en place, cook and assemble dishes as indicated by recipes.
- Make sure all mise en place is created and stations are fully prepped so service runs smoothly.
- Organize and keep walk in clean, along with dry goods, and maintain inventory with First in First Out protocol.
- Inspect quality and freshness of food items, and follow recipes and preparation techniques.
- Organize, label and date all food items in storage per DOH standards and food safety guidelines.
- Assist chef with ordering supplies, ingredients.
- Other related assignments as necessary.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to understand and meet restaurant standards for health, safety, and excellence.
- Ability to remain alert and focused in an environment that is noisy and fast-paced.
- Ability to work effectively with kitchen staff.
- Detail-oriented and thorough.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods walking or standing.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and place up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, and wipe frequently.
