ABOUT THE RESTAURANT

Margot is a New American restaurant from Halley Chambers, Kip Green and Chef Alexia Duchêne, opening in Fort Greene this spring. We are now hiring for a junior sous chef to join our creative, ambitious and joyful team.

ABOUT THE CHEF

Chef Duchêne has spent most of her career cooking in Paris and London. Her core values center around sustainable sourcing and creating a generative and respectful work environment, while delivering excellent food and service. The cuisine at Margot is meant to be fun and playful - pasta and pastry will always be featured alongside fish and vegetables and the menu will change frequently based on what’s available at the market.

The ideal candidate displays a deep passion for food and hospitality and is eager to step up in a junior leadership role. There are ample opportunities for professional development within the group, and the ability to take on further senior leadership roles in the future. We are committed to creating a team that supports each other across FOH and BOH – the ideal candidate will want to contribute to this goal. Additionally, Margot features an open kitchen -maintaining a professional and calm demeanor during service is required.

Responsibilities :

- Assist the sous chef in orderings, inventory, menu planning and kitchen schedule when the executive chef is not present

- Maintain quality and standards of the kitchen

  • Assist in training and mentorship of all line cooks
  • Ability to work on the line, hot section or cold section
  • Helping the executive chef and sous chef to plate hot plates

- Ability to multitask, reduce wastage and check quality of produce to reduce additional costs

- Maintain cleanliness and sanitary standards in compliance with DOH standards

  • Contribute to a safe and generative work environment


Desired experience:

-  1+ years as a junior sous chef or 3+ years of experience as a line cook in a upscale casual restaurant

- Excellent knife skills, plating skills and attention to detail

- New York City Food Handler Certificate or willingness to obtain

- Lift and carry 30+ pounds

- Ability to work long hours while standing up 10+ hours

  • Ability to work holidays, nights and weekends

Compensation: Salary ($58,000.00 - $65,000.00)
