Job Details

Mordecai, the award-winning, bi-level cocktail bar and restaurant in the heart of Wrigleyville, is seeking a Prep Cook. Created by Chef Matthias Merges of Folkart Restaurant Management and nationally acclaimed cocktail bar Billy Sunday, the space offers an exceptional cocktail experience and features one of the country’s largest selections of rare and collectible vintage spirits. 


Our Prep Cook is expected to work 8am-4pm - weekdays and weekends - 4 days/week, Candidates must have a food handlers certificate, a minimum of 2 years of previous kitchen experience as a Line Cook/Prep Cook, excellent time management skills, and thrive in detail oriented, high-volume environments.


Duties and skills required:

  • Completing all tasks on the prep list from Executive and Sous Chefs.
  • Labeling and stocking ingredients on easily accessible shelves.
  • Washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients -  fruits, vegetables and meats.
  • Measuring quantities of ingredients and seasonings.
  • Reducing sauces, parboiling food, starting first steps in various dishes.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary prep station, clean dishes, wash utensils and cookware.
  • Adhere to all relevant nutrition and sanitary regulations and standards.
  • Keeping track of ingredient inventory and collaborating with other kitchen management and staff to order resupply.
  • Understand how to use and operate all kitchen equipment, including proper knife skills. 

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($19.00 - $22.00)
