Brooklyn Spanish Wine Bar seeks Maitre D’ for Spring 2023 Opening Team
Compensation range: $15 – $18/hour plus tips
Anticipated Start Date: Mid-April
Bar Vinazo, a new Spanish wine bar in Park Slope, Brooklyn seeks a warm, enthusiastic Maitre D’ to join our opening team on a Full-Time or Part-Time basis. This new business is slated to open in Spring 2023 and is helmed by industry veterans Joe Campanale and Ilyssa Satter who co-own and operate nearby food and beverage concepts (Fausto, LaLou). The owners’ existing restaurants have received numerous accolades from local and national publications including The New York Times, New York Magazine, Food & Wine, the Infatuation, and Eater, among others.
This 70 seat wine bar, including a backyard, is looking for people who are passionate about food, wine, and hospitality. This is a critical position for our FOH operations and reports directly to our GM. The ideal candidate has excellent service and communication skills and is highly motivated. They enjoy talking about wine and food with guests. Candidates must be able to display a sense of urgency and be comfortable working in a team environment. Applicants should have a working knowledge of wine with passion for increasing their knowledge of Spanish wine and cuisine through regular, provided, on-site education, training and tasting.
Essential Functions:
- Receives and coordinates guest reservations on the phone, in person, and through our online reservation platform
- Welcomes guests into the restaurant and escort them to their table
- Maintains a working knowledge of full food and drink menu
- Provides engaged, friendly and attentive customer service to all guests
- Recognizes regular guests, building relationships and repeat business
- Ensures that all potential and real hazards are reported immediately
- Actively pursues notify reservations and maintains flow of guests to restaurant via waitlist
- Communicates relevant reservation information to the service team and kitchen in order to facilitate a smooth service
- Is an active member of the service team, including assisting in serving food to tables, serving drinks, wine service, taking orders, etc.
- Practices the highest regard for safety following Bar Vinazo standards
- Follows and adheres to all standards set forth by the Board of Health
- Maintains organization and cleanliness of their working station, with an eye towards the cleanliness and presentability of all guest-facing areas of the restaurant
- Assists with other tasks as assigned by the GM
Qualifications:
- High School education required
- 1+ years experience as Host or Maitre D’
- Knowledge of Resy reservation system
- Strong organizational and verbal communication skills; strong customer service background
- Ability to have an outgoing, friendly disposition for guest relations
- Will be exposed to various environmental conditions such as cold due to refrigeration and heat due to hot surfaces or coffee machines
- Exposure to some chemicals
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to sit, stand and bend would be required
- Availability to work weekends and holidays
