Job Details

The Salt Line Ballston is looking for an experienced sous chef to join the team. At The Salt Line Ballston we feature an extensive raw bar program and a menu based on the classics of New England cuisine meeting the bounty of the Chesapeake. Under the leadership of award winning Owner/Chef  Kyle Bailey and Ballston Executive Chef Matt Singer our kitchen focuses on whole fish/animal butchery, housemade pastas, bread baking, preservation methods, and a number of other traditions and techniques to deliver a menu that is already after just one year being recognized as one of the premiere dining locations in Northern Virginia and the greater DC area.

Chef Bailey opened the first The Salt Line at the Navy Yard in 2017 to a 3 Star Review from Tom Sietsema in the Washington Post and has continued to gain recognition and accolades for his work including the 2019 Chef of the Year award from the RAMW.


Candidates for this position should have solid experience working in upscale scratch kitchens and dynamic high volume restaurants, with previous management experience required for this position. We are seeking experienced individuals who are confident and dedicated team players with a proven track record of culinary achievement and succesful kitchen culture management. This is an exciting opportunity to become a part of the growing The Salt Line concept and Long Shot Hospitality Restaurant Group. 


As the Sous Chef, you will be:

  • A teamwork oriented individual with strong leadership skills.
  • Running the restaurant as a point of contact when the Executive Chef is not present.
  • Assisting in menu and recipe development.
  • Helping daily to maintain Food Cost and Labor Costs.
  • Assisting in daily ordering. 
  • Attention to detail to maintain a high quality of product.
  • Able to coach, teach, and motivate kitchen staff.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time and lift 40lbs.
