Kindling features a large wood-burning grill and wood-fired rotisserie that serves as the hearth and the heart of the restaurant's main floor. The kitchen is helmed by James Beard winning chef, Jonathon Sawyer!
The Bar Manager prioritizes service with a keen oversight on beverages and the bar team. Creative and analytical skills must come together to maintain strict budgets, build focused menus, execute excellent service, and lead the team in day-to-day operations. The bar manager will assist with guest services for all three Kindling bars and be responsible for assisting the GM and FOH Management team with all bar-related inquiries. They will work with the GM in setting the direction of the business in daily operations as well as a plan to grow the business through driving sales, managing costs, and running tight bar service.
Bar Functions:
- Conduct a bi-weekly inventory of all liquor, beer, wine, N/A items, etc.
- Place liquor, beer, and wine orders on a weekly basis.
- Ensure adequate bar preparation based on business levels.
- Keep track of high-cost items.
- Balance the aforementioned items to maintain strict COGs.
- Lead a pre-shift bar line check to ensure quality of all items.
- Execute daily bar walk throughs to assess staffing, maintenance, cleanliness, zoning, and special needs.
- Communicate all menu changes in a timely fashion to the General Manager and hourly team.
- Organize and conduct regular (monthly) informational bar seminars for employees.
- Lead staff beverage education at daily pre-shift meetings
- Work with the Beverage Director and GM to create specialty cocktails, event menus, etc.
- Work with the Beverage Director to seasonally update the beverage menu.
- Set the bar standard by maintaining the cleanliness and organization of all three bars and bar storage areas.
Service Functions:
- Perform varied manager duties to ensure proper restaurant operation according to standard operating procedure.
- Contribute to the atmosphere through utilizing lighting, music, and temperature levels.
- Become proficient in all job functions of both Front and Back of House employees.
- Become proficient in all restaurant computer equipment: Aloha, Open Table & Aloha Enterprise.
- Become proficient in the use of equipment and utensils related to managerial operations.
- Address guest complaints and problems effectively and courteously on an as needed basis.
- Use tact and good judgment when dealing with difficult guests. Respond to their needs with patience and courtesy.
- Comprehend and adhere to all sanitation guidelines as prescribed by federal, state, and local regulations.
- Comply with all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Responsible for the security of, balancing, and paring of all cash banks.
- Communicate repair and maintenance needs to GM and/or appropriate repair source.
- Complete projects as assigned in a timely manner.
Team Functions:
- Have thorough understanding of and practice Fifty/50 Group Employee Handbook, employee benefits, and company philosophies.
- Be hands on with all FOH and BOH positions to ensure a smooth and efficient service.
- Interact with, direct, and supervise employees on a daily basis in a fair and dignified manner.
- Communicate cordially and effectively with all employees, managers, partners and guests.
- Assist with the interviewing, hiring, training, development, and retention of qualified employees.
- Organize and conduct periodic informational bar seminars for employees.
- Promote teamwork among employees and ensure task completions.
- Authorize & control comps and voids for all service personnel.
- Assist with the scheduling, conducting, and documenting of employee reviews according to standard operating procedure.
- Identify, address and document individual employee performance problems according to standard operating procedure. Uphold applicable policies and requirements of employment laws. Discipline and/or terminate as necessary according to Fifty/50 Group procedures.
- Maintain a positive pleasant attitude.
- Accept direction and constructive criticism from management.
Additional Functions:
- Perform calmly and effectively in an extremely busy and stressful work environment.
- Move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven and slick surfaces.
- Be able to stand and walk for an entire shift.
- Be able to work a variety of hours, days, and shifts, including weekends.
- Communicate in English in order to comprehend and perform/follow job requirements in written and spoken direction.
- Work in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levels
- Lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Qualifications, Education & Behavior:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- 1 year in a lead bar position
- High school diploma required
- A Bachelor's or Associates degree from any accredited university is preferred but not required
- Ability to clearly communicate and write in English
- Ability to lead and motivate your team with an attitude of mutual respect
- Skilled in developing and maintaining Guest rapport through interaction and social media
