We’re looking for a part-time host to join Kumiko, the Japanese Dining Bar in Chicago’s West Loop. Must be available Saturdays and Sundays.

Job Summary

Kumiko has been named one of the World’s 100 Best Bars and honored in the 2022 Michelin Guide Chicago. The host is the first person who interacts with our guests, and as such, it’s one of the most important positions at Kumiko. 

From the interactions via email to the friendly hello at the door, the hosts sets the tone for everything else that follows. In addition to interacting with guests (answering questions, resolving booking issues), the host will be responsible for communicating to managers, service and kitchen teams. You are essential in helping the team create a memorable experience for our diners.  

Key Accountabilities

• Act as the friendly concierge for guests. You’ll guide them through reservations, take notes to enhance their experience, and provide clarity for what our guests should expect.
• Researches guests ahead of their visit and enters information into their profile.
• Answers telephone calls, emails, and texts and responds to inquiries.
• Maintains open communication with kitchen staff, management, serving staff, and guests to ensure that dining details are handled properly and guests’ concerns are addressed.
• All that goes into making our guests feel at home: Greet them warmly, walk them into the dining room, offer water. After their stay, ask about their experience, and take notes for future interactions. 
• Enters servers notes after guests’ visits into their profile to use for future visits.
• Creates and provides chits for servers that includes all pertinent information on guests seated in their sections (i.e. celebrations, allergies, aversions, etc.)
• Coordinates reservations with Oriole, if guests are visiting both restaurants.
• Prints, folds, assembles, and ensures all menus are in perfect condition.

Additional Compensation Details

Compensation: $18 - $20 hourly - this is your guaranteed hourly rate based on a $14/hr base rate to start supplemented by service charges. *Health insurance available if working at least 30 hours a week*
