Job Details

The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group is currently hiring a General Manager to oversee Utopian Tailgate & Roots Pizza, a multi-concept business located in the Piper’s Alley building, a Chicago landmark that is also home to the world-renowned Second City Theater & Comedy School.

 Candidates will be responsible for the overall operation of a single restaurant. Work with the Divisional Operations Manager and Divisional Executive Chef in executing day-to-day operations, growing the business, driving sales and managing costs. Must have the ability to run a smooth and efficient shift. This position will have a strong focus on organizational skills such as purchasing and scheduling along with other difficult operational related tasks. This candidate will have a strong desire to develop leadership and emotional maturity skills while learning to operate a busy, full-service establishment.

Essential Functions (Other duties will be assigned as needed):

  • Interact with, direct and supervise Employees on a daily basis in a fair and dignified manner
  • Assist with interviewing, hiring, training, developing and retention of qualified Employees
  • Promote teamwork among co-workers and Employees
  • Be hands on with all Front of House and Back of House positions to ensure smooth and efficient service
  • Authorize and control comps/voids for all service personnel
  • Follow up with Employees and co-workers to ensure completion of assigned projects
  • Identify, address and document individual Employee performance problems according to company policies and procedures 
  • Discipline and/or terminate as necessary according to company policies and procedures
  • Assign Employee workstations
  • Uphold applicable policies and requirements of employment laws
  • Become proficient in all job functions of both Front of House and Back of House Employees
  • Organize and conduct periodic informational seminars for Employees
  • Have a thorough understanding of and practice all Fifty/50 Restaurant Group Employee handbook, Employee benefits and company philosophies
  • Assist with scheduling, conducting and documenting of Employee reviews according to standard operating procedure
  • Complete projects as assigned in a timely manner
  • Perform varied duties to ensure proper restaurant operation according to standard operating procedure
  • Create atmosphere including lighting, music and temperature levels
  • Address Guest complaints and problems effectively and courteously on an as needed basis
  • Use tact and good judgment when dealing with Guests by responding to their needs with patience and courtesy

Qualifications, Education and Behavior: 

  • 4 + years of full-service, high-volume Managerial experience in a polished, well-run, restaurant with 50 or more Employees
  • A Bachelor's or Associate's degree from any accredited university
  • Ability to clearly communicate and write in English
  • Ability to lead and motivate your team with an attitude of mutual respect
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining Guest rapport through interaction and social media
  • High-energy, Guest-focused approach to floor management
