Job Details

Kindling will feature a large wood-burning grill and wood-fired rotisserie that will serve as the hearth and the heart of the restaurant's main floor. The kitchen will be helmed by James Beard winning chef, Jonathon Sawyer! Opening is scheduled for early January in 2023.

 

We are looking for a dynamic individual with uncanny guest recognition skills, who can think on their feet and takes a genuine interest in the guest experience. A Maître D, who enjoys being around people and working with a supportive team. A true hospitality professional who can quickly read a room, maintain proper cover counts and improvise when necessary. Kindling is a fast-paced establishment with great food, craft cocktails, wine list and a cool neighborhood atmosphere. We are a fun place to work and a great place to start a new career.

 

Essential Functions:

Candidates will be responsible for building a culture based around Teamwork, Execution and Fun. They will be participating in all day to day operations and operating with a strong sense of balance. Being a presence at the host stand that our customers feel welcomed and can become familiar with. We are looking for passionate industry professionals.

  • Use tact and good judgment when dealing with guest challenges and respond to guest needs with patience and courtesy
  • Organized, efficient and able to maintain a clean work environment

  • Help build regulars and assist with community outreach programs
  • Maintain constant, warm and welcoming presence at the host stand

 

Other Functions:

  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
  • Complying with health and food safety standards, restocking items, cleaning,
  • Following Fifty/50 Restaurant Group policies & procedures

 

Physical Functions:

  • Ability to stand/walk a minimum of 8 hours or as needed.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced and frequent mobility for periods of up to 8 hours or as needed.
  • Will frequently reach, feel, bend, stoop, carry, finely manipulate and key in data.
  • Work in both warm and cool environments
  • Work morning, mid and evening hours
  • Work weekends 
  • High levels of noise from music, customer and employee traffic.
  • Must be able to tolerate potential allergens: peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood and shellfish

Qualifications, Education & Behavior:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years of full-service, high volume experience
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work quickly while maintaining safety standards and procedures.
  • Active social media presence
  • Ability to work Holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to work a consistent schedule at least 4 days per week.

Kindling will feature a large wood-burning grill and rotisserie that will serve as the hearth and the heart of the restaurant's main floor. The kitchen will be helmed by Jonathon Sawyer, who won the Beard Award for Best Chef: Great Lakes in 2015 for his work at The Greenhouse Tavern, Noodlecat, and Trentina in Cleveland. Most recently, Chef Sawyer oversaw the Four Season's Adorn Restaurant & Bar. Many of his restaurants centered around live-fire cooking and Kindling will have a 13-1/2' of live-fire grill.

The restaurant will have room for 500 total, with a second-floor terrace debuting in the spring along Adams Street. There are three bars in all, overseen by The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group's Director of Beverage and Bar Operations, Julieta Campos. Opening is scheduled for early January in 2023.

You can expect craft cocktails from beverage director Julieta Campos as well as curated artwork and lawn games on the 5,000 SF second floor, outdoor terrace.
