Job Details

We are looking for a sous chef to join our small BOH team. Jewel of the South is currently open Wednesday-Sunday for dinner, plus Sunday Brunch. This position will pay up to $60,000 per year plus benefits and perks (see below). 

The quality of life in New Orleans is extraordinary, especially if you like food, music, art, and architecture. And according to CNN Money, a $60,000 salary in New Orleans is equivalent to $103,821 in San Francisco and $135,804 in Manhattan. 

 

We are students of the world and we seek fellow travelers. This year members of our team have represented Jewel in Austin, New York, Portland, London, and Barcelona. During our annual August break, Hannah went north to Nova Scotia, Danny went south to Mexico, Phil went across the Pacific to Maui, John and Victoria went across the Atlantic to San Sebastian, Shaun went home to Boston, Kendell went to the beach along Country Road 30a in Florida, and Paul sailed a boat around Newport, Rhode Island. And as a winner of Cognac Connection, Shannyn received an all expenses paid trip to Cognac, France next month.

 

We love to host, we love to serve, and mostly we love the power of hospitality to bring people together to celebrate, commiserate, and communicate. No matter where you are from or where you are going, we look forward to creating memorable experiences for our guests, and building an educational and rewarding culture for our FOH and BOH teams. 

 

Cocktails, food, and wine at Jewel are prepared and presented with intention and precision. Our cocktail program is steeped in history, showcasing classic techniques with innovative, seasonal flavors. Our food program seeks out unique products that deliver delicious nourishment for our guests, such as a broad range of caviars, whole vegetables, and diverse animal proteins. The menu changes regularly. Our wine program features classic labels, cult favorites, and new talent, limited to the best value available for wine that should be consumed tonight. 

 

Our compensation program is designed to support our team of intrepid travelers.

Chris Hannah, the acclaimed bartender who led Arnaud’s French 75 bar to a James Beard Award, is leaving to open Jewel of the South with fellow bartending star and Manolito business partner, Nick Detrich, NeatPour.Com reports.

Among Hannah’s bartending contributions at the French 75 during his 14 years there include putting one of the city’s lost historic cocktails, the brandy crusta, back on the menu — effectively bringing it back from obscurity according to Punch magazine.

The new fine dining eatery pays homage to a 19th-century establishment by the same name.

Plans for the restaurant include both upstairs and downstairs dining rooms, a courtyard, 19th century furniture including an antique bar originally from London, and a menu focused on highlighting the city’s culinary history.
