Tavern on the Green is looking for a Beverage Director to join our team!

The Beverage Director position for Tavern on the Green is a management role responsible for the overall quality of service and for maintaining the wine and beverage program of the restaurant. Prospective candidates should be passionate in all areas of service, knowledgeable in world cuisine and an expert in international wine and beverage. Sommelier training or degree is preferred, but not required.

The Beverage Director will assist the GM in ensuring the profitability of the restaurant by helping control beverage cost, training staff, and maintaining direct contact with guests selling wines and beverages.  They will order alcoholic beverages as needed, maintain the beverage storeroom, and verify all alcoholic beverage delivery invoices. 

Duties:

Beverage List: Wine/Beer/Cocktail

  • Creates and maintains a beverage list that meets the goals set by management
  • Maximize profit by maintaining profit margins, sales mix
  • Meets goal for inventory levels in both dollars and number of bottles
  • Keeps list up to date with wine trends
  • Conduct a regular cost and sales breakdown

Purchasing and Inventory

  • Maintain organized and clean beverage storeroom
  • Ensure that all alcoholic beverage deliveries are checked in
  • Verify all alcoholic beverage invoices
  • Ensure all alcoholic beverages are stored promptly
  • Process all invoices in a timely manner, following up on any billing disputes
  • Order all alcoholic beverages
  • Conduct a regular inventory of all alcoholic beverages
  • Ensure that all security controls are adhered to
  • Sets proper controls and ensures they are adhered to
  • Make changes to wines in POS system as necessary

Service

  • Interact with guests and serve customers as required and make recommendations
  • Assist wait staff with wine service when needed
  • Ensure that bar staff serves and manages beverages properly
  • Works dinner service on a regular basis

Training

  • Trains staff to maximizes revenue through increase sales/spending
  • Directs staff on all matters related to wine, beverage, and food pairing
  • Conducts weekly training to ensure the staff knows pronunciations, origin, and grape variety all wines 
  • Ensures staff is up to date on all changes to the wine and beverage lists


Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a fine dining environment, preferably in a similar role (4 years)
  • Excellent Beverage knowledge – including beer, wine and spirits  
  • Excellent understanding of beverage inventory and cost management
  • Excellent knowledge of restaurant service team roles 
  • Strong communication and people management skills
  • Fluency in the English language
