I|O Godfrey, the energetic, year-round rooftop lounge at The Godfrey Hotel Chicago, offers sweeping views of the city from its fourth floor perch in River North. Our menu consists of globally-inspired fare, including small plates, sushi, steaks and more. The rooftop spot’s kitchen cocktail program provides guests with complex, balanced drinks, some of which have up to 16 ingredients. I|O Godfrey is Chicago's largest indoor-outdoor rooftop and features high-energy nightlife and events as well, such as the National Event of the Year award-winning Kentucky Derby Viewing Event and the Haunted Hotel. I|O Godfrey recently won the national award for Lounge of the Year.

Job Description

All employees are expected to deliver truly great service, and to create a warm and friendly atmosphere for our guests.  Employees must work well as a team, maintain confidentiality and adhere to company policies.

Summary: Provide efficient assistance to the servers and the server process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Back Waiter Duties

  • Wipe down all surfaces: tables, chairs, cabinets, chair legs, tables, table legs, counters.
  • Sweep and/or mop as necessary.
  • Clean smudges on windows.
  • Provide supplies to all servers by stocking areas where and as needed.
  • Trash pickup and disposal at service areas.
  • Maintain personal health and sanitation standards (wash hands when using restroom etc.)
  • Polish and stock equipment for operation (silverware, linens & glassware).
  • Sets up, clear and clean tables before, during, and after the service.
  • Set up the tables with mise en place table per design.
  • Ensure that the guest’s tables are maintained to our standards at all times and in a timely fashion.
  • Set up tables for bottle service when applicable.
  • Prep supplies for bottle service, including garnishes, mixers and napkin/straw caddies.
  • Ensure that coffee is made and ready to be served.
  • Maintain equipment per levels and resets bus stations at the end of the shift.
  • Assist servers as requested.
  • Refill ice water in a timely fashion manner.
  • Check and maintain the cleanliness of guests’ tables and bus station.
  • Perform all opening, running and closing side duties.
  • Perform all duties and sequences of service in adherence to standards.
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule and late hours when necessary.
  • Must have the ability to report to work on time and on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for completing tasks related to stocking, replenishing, cleaning, and maintenance (inform MOD of any needed maintenance).
  • Uniform and/or clothing should always be “on stage clean”
  • Create and support an environment of “Teamwork” by helping a fellow employee or guest, without a second thought.
  • Attendance in mandatory meetings, training, workshops, and/or seminars
  • Adhere to organization policies and procedures
  • Maintain and stock adequate supplies of items such as glasses, cups, napkins, drink supplies, condiments, etc.
  • Wash glasses and other serving equipment at bars.
  • Stock refrigerating units with wines, beer, replace beer kegs, etc.
  • Replenish ice in service station.
  • Clean and polish counters, shelves, equipment, etc.

Qualification Requirements:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Previous experience in a high volume restaurant experience preferred
  • High School Diploma
  • Experience with one to two years in a hotel restaurant bar

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently, in the primary language of the property location

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense, define problems, collect data and notify management when necessary.  Ability to successfully re-prioritize tasks in a moment’s notice.
