JOB TITLE:  Host/ Reservationist                                                     DATE: August, 2022

 

 

REPORTS TO:  General Manager, Executive Chef, Floor Managers/ Supervisors

 

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for serving and assisting Genesis House guests in a warm, accommodating and professional manner, ensuring complete customer satisfaction.  Must actively embody Genesis House standards while in the workplace, both in interaction with fellow service team members, kitchen staff, guests and management.  Level of service must be consistent with established Genesis House  standards in every respect, as described in the employee manual and service handbook.

 

INTERACTIONS:  All phone inquiries, Guests, Purveyors, General Manager, Executive Chef, Floor Managers, Supervisors, Other Hosts/ Reservationists, FOH and BOH Staff Members

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to excel at each essential duty.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, procedures or government regulations.  Ability to write and respond to business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, guests and the general public.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply creative solutions to practical problems and situations.  Ability to remain flexible in determining a variety of problem solving approaches.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a host/ reservationist to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

While performing the duties of this job, a host is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, kitchen equipment or controls and speak or hear.  A host/ reservationist is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and taste or smell.  A host/ reservationist is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

 

A host/ reservationist must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 25-30 pounds.  Specific vision requirements include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  While performing the essential duties of this job a host is frequently required to work in a limited physical space with variable atmospheric conditions including ventilation, lighting, smoke and extreme temperatures.  The noise level in the work area regularly exposed to construction materials, odors and debris.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

  • Must demonstrate a sincere and accommodating disposition towards our guests. All guests must feel that they are welcome and important while receiving a style and level of service of the highest standards of any New York City restaurant. 
  • Responsible for greeting and acknowledging guests in a warm, gracious and accommodating manner, as outlined in the Genesis House host/ reservation manual.
  • Responsible for working with Management in the development and maintenance of all systems pertaining to the reservations department.
  • With the guidance of the Floor Managers and General Manager, may be asked to train new host/ reservations staff.
  • Responsible for reading the host/ reservation log daily, as well as entering any applicable notes to log.
  • Assist management in development and general maintenance of guest database.
  • Assist management in development and organization of “Regulars/VIP” list for Genesis House.
  • Responsible for relaying all phone complaints to the General Manager. If the GM is unavailable, calls must be forwarded to the Floor Manager on duty.
  • Assisting and overseeing confirmations of all reservations.
  • The accurate and detailed handling of the SEVENROOMS/OpenTable reservation sheet with specific reference to established Genesis House standards.
  • The correct, fair and consistent seating of guests as outlined in Genesis House host/ reservation manual.
  • May be responsible for the correct transferring of bar checks to dining room checks, and/or the handling of closing out bar checks as outlined in Genesis House host/ reservation manual.
  • May be responsible for receiving incoming phone calls, intercom communication and/or reservation requests.
  • Assisting guests on the telephone in a warm, gracious and accommodating manner, as outlined in the Genesis House door and reservations manual.
  • May be responsible for the correct handling of coat check duties.
  • Ability to converse with guests concerning menu questions in a detailed and articulate manner. Working knowledge of Genesis House menu items, food preparation techniques and basic culinary terminology.
  • May be responsible for the organization, cleanliness and distribution of menus on a daily basis.
  • Ongoing cleaning and maintenance of physical plant and workstation according to established restaurant procedures. This includes pre-shift, post-shift, daily, weekly and monthly duties as assigned by management.  Specific reference is made to the maintenance of the podium, entrance way and rest rooms.
  • Responsible for adherence to posted work schedule and arrival time. Must follow established procedures for schedule changes and shift adjustments.  Employee schedule may change without notice.  Schedule may include participation in private dining room events and/or off-premise catering events.
  • Adherence to dress code, grooming and hygiene standards.
  • Required to attend mandatory meetings when scheduled.
  • Must identify and report problem situations to management immediately.
  • Other duties and tasks deemed necessary by management.
