In 2009, Birch & Barley and ChurchKey opened its doors in the heart of Logan Circle and became the ultimate destination for discerning craft beer drinkers, diners seeking a thoughtful menu with dishes built on sourcing and technique, and the warmest hospitality.  10+ strong years later, and as passionate and ambitious as ever as we emerge from this uniquely challenging time, we are looking for a talented and driven Executive Chef to lead our culinary team.  

About Birch & Barley and ChurchKey

A pioneer in pairing refined cooking and craft beer service, Birch & Barley and ChurchKey maintains an unwavering attention to detail and service.  

Beer Director and Partner Greg Engert designed and leads the beer program which showcases the very best of the local scene alongside offerings from the most exciting domestic and international producers. Thousands of beers rotate annually through a state-of-the-art, 50 tap draft system, along with five cask ales and 500+ bottle offerings.  

The culinary program at Birch & Barley and ChurchKey brings equal ambition and talent to the dining experience.  Sourcing is guided by seasonality and local producers whenever possible.  A strong partnership between the kitchen and front of house teams means frequent collaboration and inspiration between the culinary and beverage programs, and it has fostered a fun, supportive, and positive culture.


Job Specifications

Competitive candidates will have proven success in leading kitchens at establishments with thoughtful food and beverage programs.  They will create food that is delicious and craveable, be expert in managing costs, and be skilled at hiring and coaching employees.  We are seeking a motivated leader who thinks like an owner and inspires their team.
