Located between Union Station and Chinatown in D.C.’s East End, Bar Spero is the latest concept from Reverie chef Johnny Spero, at the heart, a lively seafood bar and grill. Embodying the dynamic energy of the District’s downtown culture, the space is designed for chance encounters and lively conversation.

Opening this summer, we are looking for people who share our desire to develop genuine connections with our guests, making them feel welcome, relaxed, and at home. But behind the scenes, we put as much thought and care into the service as we do into the food and beverage. We are looking for passionate people looking to take pride in their work, maintain exceptional service standards, who are able to act as team players, and know how to have fun.

Past experience working in a fine dining or high volume restaurant is necessary for applicants of the FOH Manager position.  

Position Summary

The FOH Manager at Bar Spero is responsible for working closely with the General Manager, and Front of House Management teams to deliver high performance services, while also providing support and leadership to all hourly employees. This is a service focused position 85% service | 15% administrative.

  • Drive the standards for service & hospitality for all services at Bar Spero.
  • Organize and complete the administrative setup and breakdown of service (including but not limited to creation of floor plans, menus, employee check in, employee cash outs, bank close out etc.)
  • Comfort and confidence speaking directly with individuals and leading group discussions
  • Assist in holding our team accountable for their average check and item sales goals
  • Continuously provide support to all service staff and actively participate in the cycle of service as needed.
  • Have an understanding of operations and human resources best practices, as well as administrative tasks.
  • Work closely with all teams to ensure DOL/Health Department compliance as it pertains to the overall operation.

Continuously Build A High-Performance Team

  • In conjunction with management, hire and train all team members according to the standards of Bar Spero, including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, onboarding and orientation.
  • Provide continuous training and leadership to develop and professionally grow all staff members.
  • Hold employees accountable to all standards and practices, evaluating and/or following disciplinary procedure when necessary.

Requirements

  • 1+ years supervising in fast paced, upscale casual restaurant(s)
  • Genuine enthusiasm for the restaurant and an endless curiosity for the food & wine world
  • Experience working with a dynamic wine list, ability to perform wine service in lieu of sommelier
  • Positive Attitude, careful attention to detail, a sense of urgency and strong communication skills
  • Preferred beforehand, but can obtain before start date: DC Food Handler’s Certificate and ABRA Manager License 
  • Must be able to stand, walk and move for duration of entire shift
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
