Nina May is a new American restaurant in Shaw. This is a chef driven restaurant that always focuses on the freshest products and the highest levels of service.

 On November 1st 2019 we opened our doors for dinner service which features full table service with modern American food and a focus on shared plates and family-style dining. Nina May is a place for people to eat and explore our menus together.

Family-style dining is beloved the world over for its simplicity. A small plate here. A platter for the table there. The food is enjoyed by all, but the focus is community and sharing. Guests value this experience of eating and drinking with “family.”

The seasonal, rotating menu at Nina May will be 100% locally sourced and sustainable, with all ingredients grown, caught, produced, or sourced within 150 miles of the city. A commitment to supporting local small businesses and sustaining those farms and fisheries of the community defines Nina May. Sustainability and limited impact on ocean and farm health are paramount.

JOB DESCRIPTION

AM sous chefs are responsible for leading the team in the morning in receiving and processing deliveries and prepping all stations for the PM service. AM sous chef work 8am- 5pm 5 days a week and are the leading force behind brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Other responsibilities to the AM Sous Chef is to oversee and coordinate the planning, organizing and training necessary to achieve stated objectives in sales, costs, employee retention, guest service and satisfaction, food quality, cleanliness and sanitation. The Sous Chef will work closely with the Owner, Executive Chef and General Manager in continuing to uphold and build the business with the best staff, management team, food and service.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous management experience in a professional kitchen
- Knowledge and understanding of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
- Strong technical cooking skills
- Knowledge of seasonal produce and seasonal menu development
- Team oriented leadership with focus on staff development/retention
- Humble approach to culinary artistry
- Efficiency minded production capacity
- An understanding of how to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong attention to detail

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of opening kitchen operations 
- Exceed DOH standards of sanitation
- Supervise kitchen staff and manage staff training 
- Maintain all inventory and manage all ordering 
- Oversee all kitchen prep and ensuring accuracy and quality of all menu items
- Maintain cleanliness and quality control of the Kitchen

Nina May is the brainchild of Co-Owners: Executive Chef Colin McClimans and General Manager Danilo Simic. McClimans and Simic, who had both worked together in the past, set out to create a true neighborhood restaurant.

Nina May, inspired by their daughters’ names, is a New American restaurant in the neighborhood of Shaw, DC. This family style restaurant offers seasonal and hyperlocal ingredients, sourced from farms within 150 miles of the city. Committed to supporting local small businesses and sustaining the farms and fisheries of the community, McClimans allows the best regional ingredients to be the spotlight in his unique cuisine.

Due to the strictly seasonal ingredients, the menu is ever-changing. This allows guests to experience a wide variety of dishes through small and large shared plates. Nina May offers a unique dining experience called “Chef’s Choice”. We invite you to try this unique, seasonal dining experience. Chef’s Choice allows you to taste and explore some of our favorite dishes on the menu. This menu is designed to be shared, so we ask for a minimum of
two people to participate.
A la Carte options are also available.

In addition to the gastronomic experience, Nina May has a strong cocktail program formed by Simic, an experienced mixologist. A creative take on classic cocktails, Simic highlights the perfect balance of simple ingredients and modern infusions. With two full-service bars, Nina May offers an extensive cocktail list as well as unique wines.

Family owned and run, McClimans and Simic have truly opened their home to the neighborhood, and hope that those who visit will feel like family.
