Sous Chef – Parisian Restaurant

Location: New York, NY

Salary: $60,000-70,000 + bonuses!

Job type: Full-time permanent

About the Client:

Our client owns a collection of restaurants based in New York City. They have multiple concepts under their brand, and they are looking for a Sous Chef to join their French full-service restaurant. Their focus is to create the ambiance of a Parisian bistro through outstanding food quality and amazing customer service. This award-winning restaurant group has a great reputation and exciting expansion plans. With high-quality ingredients, attention to detail, and high standards of service, this group is seeking a Sous Chef who is ready to join their team and manage their BOH operations.

Sous Chef responsibilities:

  • You will ensure the kitchen is operating smoothly and support the Head Chef with the daily operations of the Back of House
  • You will lead others and hold your own in a fast-paced environment, all while having a positive and humble personality
  • You will ensure all food preparation is carried out according to the recipes and in accordance with health standards
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment for employees and guests
  • You will hire, motivate, and mentor a team
  • You will oversee inventory and food ordering
  • You will meet or exceed financial targets
  • You will comply with all Federal and State policies and procedures
  • You will ensure consistency in quality and service across the team
  • You will ensure the kitchen is compliant with the regulatory requirements for food handling, sanitation, and cleanliness
  • You will be responsible for admin duties, such as scheduling

Ideal Sous Chef candidate:

  • You will have high-volume Back of House/culinary management experience
  • You will have previous Sous Chef experience in a full-service upscale environment
  • You will have good career stability and a passion for food and customer service
  • You will have experience with financial targets, labour costs, writing schedules, and ordering inventory
  • You must be able to develop, mentor, and supervise a team
  • You have excellent time management skills
  • You have a flexible schedule
  • You are a well-rounded and motivated culinary professional who can support and inspire the team around you
  • Ideally, you will have French cuisine experience
  • Proven career stability and demonstrated continual progression
  • Financially savvy - you will have experience with financial targets, labour costs, writing schedules, and ordering inventory
