Lula Café is hiring a Bar Manager to lead its market-driven beverage program into its 23rd year. Since 1999, Lula has been an innovative, creative, caring space, driven by its values and centered on its community.  The Bar Manager will be a critical component of our continued success by helping create a bar program in line with these principles. 

The Bar Manager will develop the cocktail and n/a beverage programs, both for brunch and for dinner, train and hire staff, and ensure smooth operations behind the bar.  They will curate our liquor selections and educate both service teams on the selections.  In additional, the bar manager will educate the staff in pre-shift meetings, quarterly bar meetings, and one-on-one training as needed.  Passion for hospitality, curiosity for the stories behind good food and drink, a searching mind, a kind spirit, and a desire to lead through shared values, not individual power, are all necessary attributes for this position.  

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Curating liquor selections
  • Curating new seasonal cocktail menus with bar team including
    • Research and development
    • Creation
    • Costing
  • Working service either behind the bar or as a manager on the floor
  • Leading weekly preshift meetings to educate both AM and PM staff
  • Working in tandem with the General Manager on meeting financial goals
    • to monitor beer, liquor, supplies and n/a usage for ordering
    • to control inventory and cost of goods
  • Liaison with Director of Events to create cocktail packages and ensure smooth operations of offsite events when cocktails, beverages or wine as needed
  • Order beer and bar supplies
  • Organization and cleanliness of the lowboys, storage areas, walk-ins, liquor cage
  • Organizing and leading quarterly bar meetings with bar team
  • Strengthen and grow existing, and future, vendor relation

Skills and experience needed:

  • Three years of experience as a bartender in a full-service restaurant
  • At least one year of experience in a lead, supervisory or management role
  • Experience in cocktail menu creation, costing and roll out 
  • Strong background in amaro, spirits, liqueurs
  • Wine knowledge, certification a plus
  • Ability to lift/unpack boxes up to 50 pounds
