Located between Union Station and Chinatown in D.C.’s East End, Bar Spero is the latest concept from Reverie chef Johnny Spero, at the heart, a lively seafood bar and grill. Embodying the dynamic energy of the District’s downtown culture, the space is designed for chance encounters and lively conversation.
Opening this summer, we are looking for people who share our desire to develop genuine connections with our guests, making them feel welcome, relaxed, and at home. Behind the scenes, we put as much thought into food and beverage as we do into the service operations. POSITION SUMMARY

Additionally, a Sous Chef on our team must understand the following:
Bar Spero's menu is chef driven. What this means is that what we cook and how we cook is determined by experienced and trained chefs collaborating. The Sous Chef will work closely with the Chef de Cuisine and Culinary Director. You will be expected to assume responsibility at this level as you will be the next line of command and support during operations. The Sous Chef is responsible for building a team and training those cooks into a professional and disciplined brigade. The Sous Chef must be the head coach and the teacher; the kind of person who motivates with both their actions and their words. This is a position for someone who still wants to cook while working with their team.
Additionally, You will be adept at working with senior team members, not just in the kitchen, but also the GM and the front of house managers as well. This is a detail oriented position with an emphasis on service and is 85% cooking | 15% administrative.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees the preparation and service of food
- Supporting Chef de Cuisine and Executive Sous Chef in all BOH operations and communicates goals for the kitchen department and overall vision for the restaurant
- Management of labor
- Controlling inventories
- Assists in the enforcement of health and safety standard in the kitchen, walk ins and dry storage

- 2+ years of experience in a Culinary leadership position
- Must be able to comply with all health and safety standards
