RESERVATIONIST/MAITRE D IS THE ROLE
Portale Restaurant is an upscale-casual Italian restaurant in the Chelsea neighborhood. Led by Chef Alfred Portale, the James Beard award-winning and best-selling cookbook author. We are searching for talented, hardworking, and hospitality-oriented individuals who enjoy teamwork. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with relevant restaurant experience who can play a key role in creating a warm and welcoming environment for our guests and team.
As a Reservationist/Hostess at Portale Restaurant, you are responsible for cooperating with the Maitre d’ and the rest of the management team on reservations and information inquiries for Portale. You are the voice of our restaurant and therefore must represent Portale through gracious and hospitable phone and email interactions. If you are someone who knows how to be serious while also having fun, then we would be interested in learning more about you for this position.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
-Work with a positive attitude
-Exude warmth and provided sincere hospitality at the door on the phone
-Take full ownership of your sidework to ensure its completion
-Keep the coat check area, Maitre d’ stand, and bathrooms clean and organized throughout the shift
-Escort guests to their table with the ability to carry drinks on a tray
-Provide the maître d’ table status updates throughout the shift
-Field phone calls while being able to accurately quote reservation times that are available
-Assist guests with their coats and belongings
-Look beyond your primary responsibilities to assist the team as needed
-The ability to convey warmth to guests as they walk into the restaurant while being able to clearly articulate reservation details while focusing on etiquette and conveying a sense of calm
Position Requirements:
-Comfort fielding phone calls, transferring/holding calls, and making reservations
-Ability to speak clearly, confidently, and at the right pace
-Available to work weekends, days, nights, and holidays
-Excellent email and phone etiquette
Knowledge and Skills:
-Knowledge of Sevenrooms and Open Table reservation platforms
-Excellent communication skills
-Able to stand for 6-10 hour shifts
-Available to work late nights, holidays, and long days as necessary
