We at Happy Cooking Hospitality are looking for a Sous Chef. We're looking for a person who shares our passion for great food and hospitality and possesses the drive to lead a kitchen team through prep and services in a fast, high pressure environment.
The sous chef reports directly to the Executive Chef. The sous chef leads the kitchen team through prep and service striving to create an atmosphere that is wholly dedicated to excellent cuisine, efficient production, professionalism and fun.
The range of responsibilities for this position include ordering, inventory, food prep and actively cooking/working the line with their team. The sous chef should feel comfortable teaching techniques and recipes to all our cooks while controlling quality and monitoring food standards.
Any applicant should have or acquire a Food Handlers Certificate from the New York City Department of Health. The sous chef will be responsible for maintaining sanitation standards for kitchen equipment, work surfaces and stations.
Happy Cooking Hospitality was founded by Gabriel Stulman in 2009 with the start of our first neighborhood restaurant, Joseph Leonard. Jeffrey’s Grocery and Fedora quickly followed with bar Sardine and Fairfax also in the West Village mix. In 2018, we expanded outside of the West Village neighborhood with the opening of two star NY Times Simon & The Whale, Studio, and George Washington Bar all at the Freehand Hotel in Gramercy. Finally, we recently opened the Jolene in Noho.
